    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce gear noises by reducing an error in transmission of hypoid gears. SOLUTION: In a pair of hypoid gears of first and second gears, errors in transmission are measured actually and plotted while displacing the second gear. By errors in virtual transmissions, intermediate parts between errors in actual transmission are interpolated to prepare a transmission error curve C1 by connecting the errors in actual and virtual transmissions. The area of the part surrounded by the transmission error curve C1 and a greatest allowance (a straight line M) of transmission errors is determined, and virtual partition lines N1, N2, N3 are drawn from the straight line M to the transverse axis so that the part in question may be divided at a specified area ratio. The hypoid gear 10 is constituted with the transverse coordinates of intersections of the transverse axis and the partition lines N1, N2, N3 as positions of the second gear 14, that is, as those of meshing of the first and second gears 12, 14 to determine acceptable quality levels respectively.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission ratio variable device in which preload can be applied to a bearing gear, with simple constitution.SOLUTION: A preload application mechanism 79 includes a preload adjusting plug 78 which is screwed to an inner peripheral face of a housing body 31 and rotationally moves, a thrust needle bearing 81 disposed between an output shaft 23 and a Z1 gear 61, and a plate 82 for holding the thrust needle bearing 81 in a rollable manner. The Zi gear 61 is relatively rotatably supported by the thrust needle bearing 81 and an annular plate 82 for a rolling face of the thrust needle bearing 81 at a shoulder portion of the output shaft 23. By pressing the output shaft 23 by the preload adjusting plug 78, the shoulder portion of the output shaft 23 presses the plate 82, the thrust needle bearing 81, and the Z1 gear 61 axially to a center bearing 63 side. Thus, preload is applied to a bearing gear 25.
