    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost stress measurement probe for measuring stresses with high accuracy by creating artificial cracks in a desired direction not depending on a stress field by a simple mechanism. SOLUTION: This stress measurement probe 1 is inserted into an under-ground dug drill hole to generate cracks for stress measurement. This probe comprises a pair of semi-cylindrical pressure shells 2a to 2d for generating cracks by contacting with a hole wall of the drill hole, a pair of semi-elliptic pressure plates 4a to 4d for pressing the pressure shells 2a to 2d by contacting with the inner sides of the pair of pressure shells 2a to 2d, at least one piston for pressing the pressure plates 4a to 4d from the inner sides of the pair of pressure plates 4a to 4d, cylinder boxes 6a and 6b for housing the piston, and a displacement measurement part 11 for measuring the displacement of the cracks. The semi-cylindrical pressure shells 2a to 2d are formed so that their wall thicknesses are thicker in their semi-cylinder middle parts than in their semi-cylinder both end parts.
