摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to sort potatoes simply and speedily capable of immediately distinguishing at least between good ones, rotten ones, virescent ones, and mixed-in stones. SOLUTION: An optical sensor formed of a light projecting head 1 and a light receiving head 2 is vertically superposed in such a way that a light projecting surface 5 and a light receiving surface 6 are directed approximately in the same direction, and a hood 4 is provided in front of the light receiving surface. Then laser light is irradiated from the light projecting surface 5, and a potato 3 to be inspected is moved so as to intersect the laser light. The scattered light generated by the laser light is brought into the fight receiving surface 6, and the quality of the potato 3 is distinguished by a signal value such as a voltage maximum value which the light receiving head 2 outputs in response to the amount of received light. When the voltage maximum value is, for example, 3 V or more, the potato is a good one. When it is approximately 0.5 V, the potato is a rotten or virescent one. When it is 0.1 V or less, it is a mixed-in stone.
