    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting an abnormality in a pantograph by focusing attention on vibration characteristics of a pantograph without depending on visual observation.SOLUTION: Mechanical impedance (reference impedance) of a pantograph is measured in an excitation test when a pantograph to be an object is in a normal state. Contact force between the pantograph and a trolley wire and an acceleration of the trolley wire closest to a contact point between the pantograph and the trolley wire are measured in a place where an electric train performs an operation to lift the pantograph (called as an inspection place). Mechanical impedance (inspection impedance) of the pantograph in a frequency where the pantograph and an electric train line are integrally perform a free vibration after the pantograph is lifted at the inspection place is obtained by using contact force and an acceleration. The reference impedance is compared with the inspection impedance to thereby determine whether an abnormality exists in the pantograph or not.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to detect malfunctions of a pantograph (malfunctions of dynamic characteristics) by monitoring a behavior of a trolley wire influenced by the malfunction of the dynamic characteristic of the pantograph.SOLUTION: An accelerometer 30 is installed in a monitoring position P1 of the trolley wire T, and the vertical acceleration of the trolley wire T is detected. The vibration of the trolley wire when the monitored pantograph 1 passes a monitoring position P1 (so called the monitoring vibration) is measured by an accelerometer 30. Meanwhile, the vibration of the trolley wire, when this pantograph is normal, and monitoring position P1 is passed (so called the reference vibration) is measured by the accelerometer 30. Then the reference vibration and the monitoring vibration are compared, and whether the dynamic characteristic of the pantograph in the operating state is normal or abnormal is detected.
