    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyvinyl alcohol-based film excellent in dimensional stability and optical properties, a polarization membrane, and a polarization plate.
      SOLUTION: The polyvinyl alcohol-based film is produced by the casting method and has a thickness of 30-70 μm, and the dimensional change rate, which is represented by formula (1): 100×|b-a|/a, before and after the moisture absorption test such that after the film is left to stand in the circumstance of 23°C and an RH of 50% for 24 hours (size a), the film is left to stand in the circumstance of 23°C and an RH of 80% for 24 hours (condition A) and the film is again left to stand in the circumstance of 23°C and an RH of 50% (size b) for 24 hours, is 1% or less both in the flow direction and the width direction and the dimensional change rate in the moisture removal test such that instead of the condition A, the film is left to stand in the circumstance of 23°C and an RH of 20% for 24 hours is also 1% or less. The polarization membrane and the polarization plate are produced with the use of the film.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based film corresponding to widening and lengthening, being excellent in conveyance performance and also having no optical defects.SOLUTION: A manufacturing method of a PVA-based film comprises (A) a step of preparing an aqueous PVA-based resin solution containing a surfactant and having a water content of 60 to 90 wt.% and (B) a step of manufacturing a PVA based film having a water content of 5 wt.% or less by a casting method using the aqueous PVA-based resin solution, where the water evaporation rate in the aqueous PVA-based resin solution is 15 to 30 wt.%/min. The PVA-based film is a PVA-based film containing a surfactant and has a film thickness of 30 to 55 μm, a film width of 3 m or more, a film length of 4000 m or more, and a dynamic friction coefficient to a stainless steel roll of 0.03 or less as calculated from the following formula. Dynamic friction coefficient (μ)=F/2.0 [where, F(kgf) is a driving force (kgf) when an SUS304 test roll having a width of 40 mm, a diameter of 80 mm, a weight of 2.0 kg and a surface roughness (Ra) of 0.05 μm is turned on the film at a rate of 100 mm/min.]
