    • PURPOSE:To efficiently smoothen the surface of a rolling mill, by a method wherein a worn end part of a roll is detected by a sensor without detaching the roll from a stand, and is polished by jetting an abrasive slurry onto the surface of the roll by high-pressure water. CONSTITUTION:When the sensor 9 is moved along the work roll 1, an electrical signal outputted from the sensor 9 varies as indicated by (a) in the figure. The signal is converted into an electric signal as indicated by (b), by being differentiated by a signal-processing circuit 10. Based on the thus differentiated signal, a controlling circuit 11 detects the position A of the worn end part of the work roll 1, and a controlling signal for moving nozzles 4, 7 to the position of the worn end part is outputted to a motor 13 through a power amplifier 12. When positioning of the nozzles 4, 7 is completed, the work rolls 1 are rotated in the directions of arrows, and the abrasive slurry supplied through the nozzles 7 for the slurry is jetted toward the surfaces of the rolls 1 by spraying high-pressure water from the nozzle 4 for the water. Accordingly, the surfaces of the rolls 1 are polished and smoothened.

    • PURPOSE:To cast continuously a metallic plate having excellent surface and internal quality while suppressing growth of the solidified shells on the inside surfaces of gates by forming a molten metal well on the outside circumferential surfaces of a pair of cooling rolls which are in horizontal and parallel proximity with each other and rotate oppositely from each other by using the gates, and providing molten metal chanrging chambers each having a slit-shaped outflow port in said well. CONSTITUTION:Partition walls 9 are provided along a pair of circumferential gates 3 in proximity to the top ends on the outside circumferential surfaces of a pair of cooling rolls 1 to form a pair of molten metal charging chambers 7 within a molten metal well 4 consisting of a pair of side gates 2 in proximity to both axial ends on the outside circumferential surface of the rolls 1 and a pair of said gates 3. A molten metal 5 is charged from said chambers. Then the metal 5 flows out through the slit-shaped outflow ports 8 formed in the lower part of the chambers 7 toward the surface of the rolls 1. Growth of the solidified shells is suppressed beneath the inside surface of the gates 3 so that the solidified shells 5a formed on the rolls 1 are prevented from connecting to the solidified shells formed on the inside surfaces of the gates 3.

    • PURPOSE:To produce efficiently a casting plate having a beautiful and defect- free surface by bringing plural sets of a pair of vertical cooling rools disposed in parallel with each other via a small space provided therebetween into contact with a pair of adjacent cooling rolls and drawing the casting plate from the small space. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal 4 in a molten metal well 8 begins to solidify from the contact point A1 between the 1st cooling roll 5A which is one of plural sets of a pair of cooling rolls and the 2nd cooling roll 6A and at the contact point A2 between the other 1st cooling roll 5B and the 2nd cooling roll 6B, by which solidified shells are formed. The solidified shells are pressed to each other at the parts B1 and B2 where a pair of the 1st rolls 5A, 5B and a pair of the 2nd rolls 6A, 6B are respectively in the extreme proximity to each other. The shells are drawn respectively in the opposite directions as the 1st casting plate 9 and the 2nd casting plate 10. The plates 9, 10 having an optional width are obtainable by changing the level of the molten metal 4.
