    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber array for converting a mode field diameter, an optical fiber array which is used for connecting between multiple SMFs of a different mode field diameter or between a multiple SMF and a PLC and which has less connection loss, and also to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: In an optical fiber array which is structured by arranging in parallel a plurality of cores having a high refractive index and by covering the circumference all together with a clad having a low refractive index, the cores are provided with a refractive index distribution of a graded index type. This optical fiber array is made by drilling a plurality of holes in quartz glass, drawing lines after inserting a core rod in these holes, and cutting off at prescribed intervals. According to the invention, it can provide the optical fiber array for converting a mode field diameter as well as the manufacturing method, eliminating a complex conventional process and enabling a nearly constant stable connection loss to be realized for each optical fiber of a multiple optical fiber. • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber sensor capable of stably detecting deformation for a long period without causing the peeling of adhesive agent by fixing a non-peelable resin coated layer 3 to a metal plate 6 forming a detected body fixing portion. SOLUTION: In this optical fiber sensor, the state of variation in a detected body fixing an optical fiber is detected by optical signals transmitted through the optical fiber by utilizing Bragg-grating written in a part of the optical fiber formed of a core and a clad in the longitudinal direction of the core. The non-peelable resin coated layer 3 covering the outer periphery of the clad 2 of the optical fiber is fixed to the metal plate 6 forming the detected body fixing portion with adhesive agent 7. The resin coated layer may be fixed to the metal plate by crimping with a crimping metal plate 9 in place of the adhesive agent 7. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
