    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polarizing film usable under wide conditions of low to high temp. and low to high humidity, having high polarizing performance and excellent in durability by introducing a polyene structure into an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having a specified ethylene content.
      SOLUTION: A film of an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having 1-25 mol.% ethylene content is dehycirated to form a polyene structure in the molecule. The polymn. degree of the copolymer is ≥300, preferably ≥500. The ethylene- vinyl alcohol copolymer film is immersed in a methanolic soln. of a proton donating acid such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid or in an aq. soln. of a stannic halide such as stannic chloride or stannic bromide, such a dehydration promoter is incorporated into the film and then the film is stretched to obtain the objective polarizing film.
