    • PURPOSE:To control the correct positioning of a magnetic head and to make the density of a track high by giving an azimuth angle to a signal between the adjacent tracks, executing the recording and reproducing of the signal by using a recording and reproducing separation head, simultaneously reproducing the signal by a reproducing head and controlling the positioning of the head. CONSTITUTION:A pair of heads 8 respectively provided with the azimuth angle is loaded and the respective heads 8 are provided with a recording head element 5 and a reproducing head element 4. Then, a reproducing action can be always executed. When only recording and reproducing data is recorded, the recording and reproducing data on the identical track is separated and reproduced by the left and right elements 4. A positioning signal is obtained from the difference of amplitude between signals from two elements 4. Then, the positioning with high accuracy is executed by controlling the positioning signal so as to be zero. Thus, since the positioning signal can be reproduced in parallel with a recording and reproducing action, the positioning can be always controlled. As the result, the density of the track is made high.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make efficient use of the storage capacity of a recording and reproducing device by automatically discriminating the degree of importance of data stored on the recording and reproducing device and by automatically erasing the data in accordance with foregoing automatic discrimination. SOLUTION: The recording and reproducing device comprises: a data obtaining unit 100 for capturing data; a feature extraction means 107 for preparing key information representing the feature of the captured data; a recorder 108 for recording the captured data and the key information on the data; a reproducing means 113 for outputting the data recorded on the recorder 108; an erasing means 120 for erasing the data recorded on the recorder 108; and a means for evaluating the degree of importance 119 for judging the degree of importance of each recorded data to output the degree of importance to the erasing means 120. The erasing means 120 erases the data when the degree of importance outputted from the means 119 is equal to or lower than the previously established threshold value and allows the key information on the data to leave behind without erasure.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record a servo pattern not exceeding an erase area limit and improve the performance of a magnetic disk drive by permitting the existing of an unusable track area equivalent to one to several tracks at a place where the skew angle of a magnetic recording medium is a prescribed angle. SOLUTION: A servo pattern is recorded once in both a negative skew angle area 22 and a positive skew area 23 that are bounded by tracks 21 providing a skew angle of 0 degree in a magnetic disk 20. A magnetic head 24 starts recording of the servo pattern to the area 22 (23) from an outermost circumference (innermost circumference) of the magnetic disk 20 up to the tracks 21 and leaves track areas around the tracks 21, to which no servo pattern is recorded. Thus, the magnetic disk drive can process the magnetic disk 20 so that the magnetic disk 20 has a physical gap track area where no servo area is in existence and a logical gap track area that allows no substantial recording/ reproduction of data to data track areas around track areas providing a skew of 0 degree.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the positioning accuracy and the reliability of a write fault signal. SOLUTION: In the magnetic disk device of a sensor servo system, individual servo information is constituted of a pull-in area A, a track identification area B and a position signal/speed detection area C and the position signal/speed detection area C is made to be a constitution consisting of one pair of patterns C-1 and C-3 which are constituted so as to have prescribed azimuth angles of the same phase with respect to the circumferential direction of a track and the pattern C-2 which is held between them. Since the position signal/speed detection area C has the constitution in which phases of patterns C-1 and C-3 are the same phases and the pattern C-2 having the opposite phase is pushed in between them, a servo system detects position information from the phase between the C-1 part and the C-2 part or the C-1 part and C-3 part and detects speed information by observing the phase difference between the C-1 part the C-3 part from one piece of servo information in the same sector. Moreover, the write fault signal for recording is produced from the position information and the speed information in the same sector.
