摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a base for photographic paper having an excellent drawing property without powder dislodgment of a coating layer on the rear surface of the photographic paper and without detachment of the printing at the time of development processing by roughening the surface of the base not provided with photographic emulsion layers. CONSTITUTION:The surface not provided with photographic emulsion layers of the base for photographic paper formed by coating the image plane of base paper with a polyester resin consisting essentially of a polyethylene terephthalate is roughened to 1.0 to 4.0mum in center face average roughness. The method for the roughening is preferably a method of embossing the polyester resin with the matte surface of a cooling roll at the time of melt extrusion laminating the polyester resin on the base paper. The surface roughening treatment of the cooling roll is executed by forming fine ruggedness on the surface of an iron core roll by sand blasting or liquid honing and subjecting the roughened surface to chromium plating.

摘要： PURPOSE:To increase ink absorption rate during recording and thereby increase drying efficiency and recording density by applying water paint containing a specific amount of a non-ionic surfactant with a specific HLB value for a specific amount of fumed silica, and binder to pigment using cast coating technique and then drying said water paint. The pigment is a flocculation of spherical particles of silicon dioxide with the diameter of a primary particle averaging from 10 to 20mum. The fumed silica is preferably of the specific surface area of 100m /g.

The pigment, the water repellent or the like may have a function of flocculating the microcapsules. The undercoating liquid is preferably applied by an on- machine coater such as a size press, a bill blade and a gate roll.

The used microcapsules comprise minute capsules with the mean grain size of 1-20mum, each of which is composed of an oleaginous solution solved with basic colorless developers as the internal and a wall material coating the internal and formed of a high molecular substance which is insoluble with both aqueous and oleaginous solutions. As the developers are used crystal violet lactone, rhodamine B lactam, etc. which has such a property as permitting to give electrons and receiving protons such as acids to develop colors.
