SOLUTION: This fuel injection device 10 comprises a nozzle body 11 having a jetting hole 41 for jetting a fuel and a nozzle needle 31 opening and closing the jetting hole by reciprocatingly moving in the nozzle body 11. The nozzle needle 31 comprises a sliding member 32 slidably movable in the nozzle body 11, insert parts 34, 35, and 37 smaller in diameter than the sliding part 32, and a pressure receiving part connecting the sliding part 32 to the insert parts 34, 35, and 37. The nozzle body 11 comprises a guide part 12a slidably holding the sliding part 32 and an oil sump chamber 16 formed on the jetting hole 41 side of the guide part 12a and through which the insert parts 34, 35, and 37 are passed. SOLUTION: In this device, two NOx catalysts 19, 20 are serially located with an exhaust pipe 18. A gas inlet temperature Tin and a gas outlet temperature Tout of the NOx catalyst 20 located downstream are detected by exhaust gas temperature sensors 21, 22 provided respectively at the inlet and outlet of the downstream NOx catalyst 20. SOLUTION: A distance D between the surface on the fixing member side of an armature 60 and the surface on the armature side of the fixing member 70 is set to 5-60 μm. By setting the upper limit valve of the distance D to 60 μm, a stock occurring when a valve member 50 seats a second plate member 82 is reduced by fuel nipped between the surfaces, opposed to each other, of the armature 60 and the fixing member 70. Meanwhile, by setting the lower limit value of the distance D to 5 μm, an adhesion generated by fuel present between the armature 60 and the fixing member 70 is reduced. Thereby, an opening command, i.e., a delay in a time from starting of energization to a coil 43 to a time at which the valve member 50 is driven is prevented from occurring.
