    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus and a coating method by which coating work using a high viscous coating liquid is carried out.
      SOLUTION: The coating apparatus is provided with a backup roll (2) for carrying a long sized base material, a comma roll (3) or a cylindrical roll arranged above the backup roll (2) and a liquid dam housing a coating liquid between the backup roll (2) and the comma roll (3) or the cylindrical roll (3) and has a heating means for heating a backup plate (4) for the liquid dam. The inclined angle of the backup plate (4) from a horizontal plane is preferably 5-20°. In the coating method, the coating is carried out using the coating apparatus by heating the surface temperature of the backup plate (4) to 40-200°C. In the coating method, a hot melt type adhesive agent or a photoreactive adhesive composition having ≥20,000 cps viscosity at 25°C is used as the coating liquid.
