      SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a plate-like cleaning blade which is disposed on the upstream side of an image carrier in the direction of its rotation, scrapes residual matter from the surface of the image carrier and whose leading end is in press contact with the surface of the image carrier; a solid lubricant applied on the surface of the image carrier; a rotary brush which is disposed on the downstream side of the image carrier in the direction of its rotation but on the upstream side of the cleaning blade in the direction of the rotation of the image carrier and rotates in a predetermined direction through an area where the brush is in contact with the surface of the image carrier and an area where the brush is in contact with the solid lubricant, thereby applying the lubricant on the surface of the image carrier; and a plurality of flicking members which are disposed side by side in the direction of the rotation of the rotary brush and firmly pressed into the brush to scrape matter sticking to the brush.
