    • PURPOSE:To provide the optical connector structure which has both functions of improvement in strength against a lateral load and reverse insertion prevention while structure which enables high-density packaging and size reduction is maintained. CONSTITUTION:The structure of an optical connector consists of an optical connector plug 11 which holds a ferrule 13 where an optical fiber 12 is mounted and a housing 16 for the optical connector where the optical connector plug 11 is mounted and held, and the optical connector plug 11 consists of a plug housing 14 wherein the ferrule 13 is incorporated and a knob 17 mounted slidably on its periphery and cross section is almost a rectangular shape at right angles to the axis of the ferrule 13; and a groove 18 and a detaining linear projection 41 are formed in a couple of opposite flanks which are symmetrical with respect to a plane along the axis of the ferrule 13 at positions where they do not interfere with each other and other opposite flanks are not symmetrical with respect to a plane. The connector plug housing 15 has two detaining engagement grooves for detaining the detaining projections in the internal surface of the insertion hole for the optical connector plug 11.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce deterioration in the extinction ratio of a polarization maintaining optical fiber due to residual stress when the polarization maintaining optical fiber is adhered to the ferrule and then a flange is fitted by employing structure wherein the flange can not move beyond a projection or step provided at the outer periphery of the front end part of the sleeve when pressed in. CONSTITUTION:A flanged projection 32 is formed at the front end of the sleeve 31 of the ferrule 1 which holds an optical fiber inside and the flange 33 is pressed in the sleeve 31 of the ferrule 1. The pressed-in flange 33 stops while abutting on the projection 32 of the sleeve 31, so even while the pressure of a spring operates on the flange 33 after assembly, the flange 33 never comes out toward the front end of the ferrule 1. The projection 32 which receives the spring pressure applied to the flange 33 is provided previously to the sleeve 31 where the flange 33 is pressed in, so sufficient fixation strength for the spring pressure is obtained without making a pressing-in margin large.

    • PURPOSE:To improve accuracy by fitting a fitting member having a float hole in the through-hole bored in a package, inserting the float stem part of a housing in alignment into the float hole and mounting a fixing member to the front end of the float stem part. CONSTITUTION:This structure has the through-hole 29 provided in the package 25, the disk-shaped member 30 bored with the float hole 33, a holding surface 26 consisting of one face of the housing 23, the shaft-like projecting part 27 which is projectingly provided integrally from this holding surface 26 and is inserted into the float hole 33, and the planar fixing member 28 of the outside diameter larger than the through-hole 29 fixed in the projecting part 27. The package 25 is sandwiched by the holding surface 26 and the fixing member and the housing 23 is so provided as to be held afloat to the package 25 by the spacing between the float stem part 35 formed in a part of the projecting part 27 and the float hole 33. The float holding structure of the good accuracy is thus obtd. with the simple and compact structure at the time of holding the package side housing afloat to the package.

    • PURPOSE:To stabilize optical coupling between fibers by coupling and fixing optical fibers, which are cut by the insertion of an optical control member, by pipe-shaped glass which has an internal diameter a little larger than the external diameter of the optical fibers and an external diameter a little smaller than the internal diameter of a flange part. CONSTITUTION:The optical control member 36 is inserted into the flange part 32 and the fibers 33a and 34a which are cut by the insertion of the optical control member 36 are coupled and fixed by the pipe-shaped glass 38 which has the internal diameter a little larger than the external diameter of the fibers 33a and 34a and the external diameter a little smaller than the internal diameter of the flange part 32. Then the jackets of parts of the optical fibers 33 and 34 which are inserted into the glass pipe 38 and a fitting part 31 are removed to expose the fibers 33a and 34a themselves. Therefore, the optical fiber 33 has the optical fiber 33a exposed entirely, the optical fibers 33a and 34a in the glass pipe 38 are adhered by the glass fiber, and the part of the optical fiber 34 where its jacket is not removed is adhered to the flange part 32. Consequently, the stable connection terminal which is incorporated in the optically coupled optical control member can be realized.

    • PURPOSE:To easily and securely prevent a plug form coming out erroneously by providing a mechanism part for fixing an optical connector to a hood behind the plug and a structure part which covers a frame while the optical connector is fixed to the hood. CONSTITUTION:The optical connector lock 1 is set having lock claws 4 opposite the plug 10 and an optical fiber cord 13 is passed through a slit 5 and run through a through hole 2. Then the upper and lower flanks of the optical connector lock 1 are held and put close to the plug 10 from behind and the hood 12 is run between the lock claws 4 and through the through hole 2 to press the hood 12 by the upper and lower lock claws 4 and the internal flank of the through hole 2, so that the hood 12 deforms elastically. Further, the optical connector lock 1 is moved forth to before the plug 10 and the lock claws are inserted into the gap between the frame 11 and hood 12 under the guidance of a chamfered part 4'', thereby locking the optical connector while bringing the rear end of the frame 11 into contact with the internal bottom part of the lock 1. Consequently, the optical connector lock 1 locks the plug 10 to an adapter 15 to prevent the plug 10 from coming out erroneously.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the clamping strength between an adapter and a plug by making the coefficient of friction between the locking claw and clamping projection of an optical connector larger than a specific value, and then preventing the locking claw from disengaging from the clamping projection and allowing an optical cord to withstand tensile force up to the rupture strength of an elastic locking piece when the tensile force is applied to the optical cord. CONSTITUTION:When the optical connector and plug is coupled with each other, the tip side of the elastic piece 4 of the elastic locking piece 3 supported in a cantilever shape in the housing 2 of the connector hops up a constant quantity from the center axis 4a of the elastic piece 4 penetrating a support part 2a to lock the locking claw 6 to the clamping projection 13. When the distance between the center axis 4a of this elastic piece 4 and the point where the locking claw 6 and clamping projection 13 contacts each other is denoted as S and the distance between the support part of the elastic piece 4 and the point where the locking claw 6 is brought into contact with the clamping projection 13 is denoted as l, the coefficient mu of friction between the locking claw 6 and clamping projection 13 is so set that mu>=3S/2.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a connector plug for an optical fiber having high accuracy with ease of working by fining the front end of a ferrule consisting of a hard material and dropping an adhesive agent to the end face thereof to form the soft front end including the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:A ferrule aligning part 5 consists of ceramics such as zirconia and alumina and the front end thereof is formed to a circular truncated cone shape of the diameter decreasing gradually toward the front end. The adhesive agent 6 is packed into the ferrule 3 and the covering 2 at the front end of the optical fiber 1 is removed. The adhesive agent 6 is coated on the front end and such front end is inserted into the ferrule 3 and is pushed therein until the front end of the optical fiber 1 projects through a small hole 5b from the end face 5c of the front end 5a of the ferrule. The adhesive agent 7 is then dropped over the entire surface of the end face 5c and is cured in such a manner that the adhesive agent 7 includes the optical fiber 1. The front end of the optical fiber 1 is then cut off and the end face of the fiber is polished slightly flat together with the adhesive agent 7.
