A signal processing part 54 calculates the rotation angle of the torsion bar as a low-accuracy mechanical angle, it corrects the mechanical angle on the basis of the electrical angles, and it calculates the rotation angle over a wide range with satisfactory accuracy. A subtraction part 55 and an angle/torque conversion part 56 calculate the torque on the basis of the difference between both electrical angles.
