The main body frame 200 and the CM frame 201 are discriminated based on an insertion point of the black frame 202, phases 1 and 2 are recognized as a main body and a phase 2 is recognized as a CM.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing apparatus and a reproducing method for preventing an output from being stopped in the case of executing reproduction bridging over clips with respect to a video signal subjected to compression coding with a long GOP. SOLUTION: A first decoder acquires a middle position of a decoded clip during reproduction at present and discriminates a positional relation between a reproduced position and the middle position. When the reproduced position is earlier than the middle position, a clip before the clip during reproduction at present is used for a target reproduction clip and a second decoder decodes a frame at the tail end in advance. When the reproduced position is later than the middle position, a clip after the clip during reproduction at present is used for the target reproduction clip, and the second decoder decodes a top frame in advance. When the reproduced position bridges over clips, outputs of the first and second decoders are switched, the second decoder decodes the clips during reproduction at present, and the first decoder decodes the target reproduction clip in advance.
