    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery pack which is charged or not charged depending on the combination of the battery pack and a charging device, and also to provide a charging device corresponding to the battery pack.
      SOLUTION: The battery pack 1 is composed of a battery 1a, a pseudo-high temperature element 1b, a thermistor 1c, and a battery type judging element 1d. A charge allowing/not allowing means is constituted by the pseudo-high temperature element 1b and the thermistor 1c. The pseudo-high temperature element 1b indicates that the temperature of the battery 1a exceeds a prescribed temperature. When the battery is erroneously connected to a charging device not provided with a proper charge control method, it is judged so that the temperature of battery 1a is higher than the prescribed temperature by an information from the pseudo-high temperature element 1b, and charging is not performed. When the battery pack 1 is connected to a charger 200, the charger 200 judges whether the battery pack 1 is equipped with the thermistor 1c. A second battery temperature detection circuit 100 detects the temperature of the battery 1a through the thermistor 1c, and a charging is performed by switching a constant current control and constant voltage control in accordance with the temperature and voltage of the battery or the like.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charger which performs appropriate charge control depending upon whether it is a battery pack adaptable or not adaptable to cooling, that is, by the presence or absence of cooling effect of the battery pack, and especially to shorten the charging time of the battery adaptable to cooling.
      SOLUTION: This charger has a cooling fan which cools the battery pack; a battery temperature detecting means which detects the temperature of a battery within the battery pack; and a control means which judges the presence or absence of the cooling effect, and discriminates the full charge of the battery and controls the charge current based on the output of the battery temperature detection means. The control means switches the charge current to a first charge current value which suppresses the rise of the battery temperature by charge, at a point of time when the battery temperature reaches the first specified value before the maximum temperature within a chargeable range where the charged battery does not shorten its life in case that it has judged that there is no cooling effect by the above cooling fan, and switches the charge current into a second charge current value larger than the first charge current value which suppresses the rise of the battery temperature by charge, at a point of time when the battery temperature reaches a second specified value higher than the first specified value, when it decides that there is cooling effect by the cooling fan.
