    • PURPOSE:To obtain a light attenuating plate having desired dependency of attenuation on wavelength by forming a multilayered dielectric film on one side of a substrate having a light attenuating film on the front side so as to correct the dependency of attenuation of the resulting light attenuating plate on wavelength. CONSTITUTION:Both sides of a glass substrate (BK-7) 1 are polished and cleaned, a Ti film 2 is deposited as a 10 dB light attenuating film on one side of the substrate 1 with an electron beam vapor deposition apparatus, and a TiO2 film 3, an SiO2 film 4, a TiO2 film 5 and an SiO2 film 6 are successively deposited on the other side to form a multilayered dielectric film. This dielectric film may be formed on the light attenuating film or the light attenuating film may be formed on the multilayered dielectric film. The attenuation characteristics of the light attenuating film can be evaluated by comparing the intensity of light of a specified wavelength received after passing through the film with the intensity of such light received without passing through the film and by continuously varying the wavelength.

    • PURPOSE:To attain a sufficient quenching ratio with simple constitution without precise control for film formation by arranging polarized light separating films between both the slant faces of a diamond prism and the slant faces of triangular prisms arranged oppositely to the diamond prism. CONSTITUTION:A polarization coupler has the triangular prism 3 stacked on one slant face of the diamond prism 2 and a polarized light separating film 4 and a P-polarized wave is attenuated twice by said components. The polarized light separation degree characteristics for an S-polarized wave of a polarized light separating film 5 in such an apparatus are expressed by the simple reduction of attenuation in accordance with the increase of wavelength and are not easily influenced by the accuracy of film formation. On the other hand, the polarized light separation degree characteristics of the P-polarized wave are sharply changed by the accuracy of the film formation and it is difficult to secure >30dB attenuation in a required wavelength range. Thus, the addition of the film 4 and the prism 3 makes it possible to secure the attenuation of the P-polarized wave sufficiently and attain a sufficient quenching ratio.

An optical fiber 2a to which the light having the wavelength lambdaa which is transmitted through a filter film 11 and is separated is made incident is set to the side face facing the optical fiber 1 through another condenser lens 8. An optical fiber 3a to which the light having the wavelength lambdab is made incident is set to a side wall of the demultiplexer main body case 12 in a prescribed direction. The filter film 11 is set to the bottom plate of the demultiplexer main body case 12. This filter film 11 is a simple transmission filter which permits the light having the wavelength lambdaa to transmit through and reflects the light having the wavelength lambdab to separate it. Thus, the constitution is simplified and the cost is reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To improve measurement precision and to widen a measurement range by connecting respective data groups obained by taking measurements over the entire area of an optical fiber together at boundary points among respective measurement areas. CONSTITUTION:A changeover switch 2 is connected to its terminal (x) by receiving a clock signal from a clock part 1. In this case, a pulse width selecting circuit 3 generates a narrow pulse and a corresponding light pulse from a laser diode 6 is sent from a coupler 5 to the optical fiber 6. Light reflected by the optical fiber 6 is sent to the coupler 5 and an avalanche photodiode 7 to eliminate noises, etc., and thus the light is digitized. The obtained waveform data is stored in a memory 12a. Then, the switch is connected to a terminal (y) to send out a wide pulse. In this case, the resolution decreases slightly, but the measurable distance is extended and waveform data is stored in a memory 12b. Then, the switch is connected to a terminal (z) to send out a wider pulse and a measurement is taken to further distance to store waveform data in a memory 12c. Those obtained waveform data are concatenated together by a data concatenation processing part 13 and processed to obtain waveform data on the entire area of the optical fiber 14 through a display part 14.

    • PURPOSE:To make changing-over operation of the switch stable by forming the guide grooves of the number equal to the number of stationary fibers to the circumferential edge of a rotatably mounted plate cam and pressing the end of the movable optical fiber to its circumferential edge by a pressing device. CONSTITUTION:The switch is constituted by a plate cam 10 which is mounted rotatably by a pulse motor 20, a movable optical fiber 30 which is pressed to the circumferential edge 11 of said plate cam by a pressing member consisting of a spring 22 and a contactor 23 and a plurality of stationary fibers 31 to be coupled to said movable optical fiber. Guide grooves 12 of the number equal to the number of the stationary optical fibers 31 are formed to the circumferential edge 11 of the plate cam 10. The end part of the movable fiber 30 is alwys held pressed via the contactor 23 to the circumferential edge 11 of the plate cam 10 in the A direction by the spring 22. Hence, even if the movable optical fiber 30 is engaged with the guide groove 12 corresponding to the stationary optical fibers 31 by the rotation of the plate cam 10, it does not vibrate, thus the phenomenon that the light signal leaks occasionally does not occur and the changing-over operation of the switch may be made stable.

    • PURPOSE:To achieve easier working and assembling and less number of coil windings and drive current by making the armature holding a movable optical fiber oscillatable about a statinary pin as a fulcrum. CONSTITUTION:The other end of the body 14 which is wound with a coil (magnetism generator) 12 on its outside circumference, is provided in a capsule 11 provided with magnets 13, 13' at one end and is fixed at one end with stationary optical fibers 17, 17' by way of support plates 16, 16' is mounted with the armature 10 holding a movable optical fiber 18, oscillatably by way of a pin 20. If with this arrangement the drive current is supplied to the coil 12 to energize the armature 19 and the armature is moved toward one of the magnetic pole plates 15, 15', then the end part 18a of the movable optical fiber 18 is connected to one of the stationary optical fibers 17, 17', whereby switching of the circuits is accomplished. Since the armature 19 is oscillatable by way of the pin 20, the force required for oscillating the same can be smaller and the intended object is achieved.
