SOLUTION: A fiber is impregnated with a bonding fluid comprising a novolac resorcinol/formaldehyde precondensate A, an alkali metal hydroxide B, an aqueous water-insoluble epoxy resin dispersion C, and a rubber latex D, the weight ratio D/(A+C) in terms of the solid matter being in the range of 100/10 to 100/140, and the weight ratio A/C (in terms of the solid matter) being in the range of 1/0.25 to 1/6 and buried in an unvulcanized rubber, and the unvulcanized rubber is vulcanized to integrate the fiber with the rubber. Alternatively, a fiber is impregnated with a mixture comprising a rubber latex (D) and an aqueous water-insoluble epoxy resin dispersion (C) in a solid ratio of 100/15 to 100/120, dried and heat-treated. The treated fiber is buried in an unvulcanized rubber, and the unvulcanized rubber is vulcanized to integrate the both.

The adhesive compsn. is prepd. by mixing a water-base liq. mixture (A) comprising a resorcinol (R)- formaldehyde (F) pecondensate (RF) and at least one latex (L) of at least either a styrene-butadiene-vinylpyridine terpolymer or a styrene-butadiene copolymer with a water-base dispersion (B) of a substantially water-insolub1e epoxy resin having an epoxy equivalent of 300 or lower. The molar ratio of F to R 1.5-2.8; the wt. ratio (solid basis) of RF to L, is 0.075-0.25; and the wt. ratio of mixture A to dispersion B is 0.15-1.20.
