    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress polarization dependency gain in an EDFA. SOLUTION: The EDFA includes an EDF 20 to which an input light is inputted from one end, an excitation light source 21 generating an excitation light, and an optical multiplexer 22 which provides the excitation light by the excitation light source 21 to one end of the EDF 20. The EDFA is provided with a reflector 23 which reflects a light component, of a predetermined band out of spontaneous emission light generated at the EDF 20 and progressing toward an input port IN, toward the EDF 20, or a reflector 24 which reflects the light component of a predetermined band out of the output light of the EDF 20 toward the EDF 20. The predetermined band of the light component reflected by the reflectors 23 and 24 is a band of polarization hole burning generated at the EDF 20, and it is a band near the wavelength of a signal light contained in the input light, preferably the signal light wavelength is ±6 nm.
