    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing FDCA by which the FDCA can efficiently and quantitatively be produced under a mild condition without using an expensive catalyst while reducing the energy consumption.
      SOLUTION: The furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid is obtained by oxidizing a furan ring compound having two functional groups selected from a hydroxymethyl group, a formyl group and a carboxy group at 2- and 5-positions of a furan ring in an alkaline environment with a metal salt of permanganic acid. Preferably, the alkaline environment contains one or more kinds of a hydroxide of an alkali metal and a hydroxide of an alkaline earth metal, and the reaction is carried out at ≥1°C and ≤50°C by adding a metal salt of permanganic acid to an alkaline aqueous solution containing the furan ring compound.
