    • PURPOSE:To produce the title film improved in surface smoothness and handling properties in high speed working by specifying the coefficient of static friction, 10-point average roughness, protrusion height and air escape speed between two films. CONSTITUTION:A lubricant is obtained by mixing 0.05 0.5wt.% inert particles having a mean particle diameter (D1) of 0.05-0.3mum, a dispersion of particle diameter of 25% or below and an areal ratio to a circumscribed circle, defined by the equation of 60% or above with 0.005-0.1wt.% inert particles having a mean particle diameter (D2) of 0.2-0.5mum, desirably having a D2/D1 ratio of 1.2 or above, having a dispersion of particle diameters of 25% or below and the above defined areal ratio of 60% or above and other inert particles. A polyester is mixed with the lubricant B, and the mixture is molded into a film. This film is biaxially oriented to obtain the title film which has fine protrusions on the surface, has a coefficient of static friction of below 2.0, a 10-point average roughness (noncontact three-dimensional roughness meter) of 0.4-0.7mum, has below 2000/mm protrusion of a height of 0.2mum or above and 20000/mm or above protrusions of a height of 0.025-0.2mum and has an air escape speed between two films of 700sec or below.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably manufacturing a uniaxially oriented polyester film capable of being used in a state bonded to the constituent member or the like of a large-sized liquid crystal display device unnecessary to peel at the time of inspection, having stable optical characteristics in an axial direction, having good inspection properties, and suitable as a substrate of a surface protective film and a release film. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the uniaxially oriented polyester film includes a process for laterally stretching a polyester film in the stretching zone in a tenter, and a process for thermally fixing the laterally stretched polyester film in a thermal fixing zone. The temperature of the stretching zone is (Tg+70)-(Tg+10) deg.C, the temperature of the thermal fixing zone is (Tg+130)-(Tg+30) deg.C (herein, Tg is the glass transition temperature of the polyester film), the temperature of the stretching zone is lower than that of the thermal fixing zone, the temperature difference between them is 20-60 deg.C, and the speeds of the respective rolls present between the lateral stretching process and a product take-up machine is 99.0-100.0% with respect to the speed in the flow direction of the film at the time of lateral stretching.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare an optical covering film excellent in transparency, adhesive properties, water resistance and color, showing no discoloration or precipitation of foreign matters by remelt molding, and showing no foreign matters caused by polyester polycondensation catalyst which does not include a conventional antimony, which is mainly composed of a polyester produced by using a new polyester polycondensation catalyst which does not include a conventional polycondensation catalyst such as an antimony compound, a germanium compound and a titanium compound as a main component. SOLUTION: The optical covering film has a biaxially oriented polyester film as a base material, and a covering layer mainly composed of a polymer resin and a particle is provided on at least one side of the base material. The polyester film includes, as a main constituent, the polyester which is polymerized by using a polycondensation catalyst containing an aluminum and/or its compound and a phenolic compound. The covering film has a total light transmittance of 90% or higher, a water resistance of 90 or higher, and a value of discoloration after remelt molding of 10 or less.
