Then the above compound of formula III is dissolved in a solvent such as pyridine and is made to react with the acid chloride of formula V to afford the compound of formula I.

摘要： PURPOSE:In preparing plate glass by sol-gel method, to obtain plate glass efficiently and economically, by feeding a silica sol solution to an upright container divided in a beltlike way. CONSTITUTION:A metal alkoxide (e.g., ethyl silicate) is hydrolyzed, and, if necessary, silica fine powder is added to it, to prepare a silica sol solution. Then, the silica sol is packed into the upright container 2 divided in a beltlike way by the partition plates 3, the container is closed, and the silica sol is aged. Then, the silica sol is gelatinized with the advance of aging, and, when shrinkage starts slightly, a cover is changed with a porous cover (the partition plates 3 are removed, and preferably plastic sheets are inserted into the container instead of them), the gel is put in a dryer, and dried. Then, the prepared dried gel is taken out, and calcined according to a given program, to give plate glass.

摘要： PURPOSE:To manufacture efficiently the titled quartz glass by agitating at least alkyl silicate, water, and ultrafine silica powder en bloc in a hermetical vessel with strong shearing force, hydrolyzing, mixing, and dispersing the materials to regulate efficiently the sol. CONSTITUTION:A specified amt. of ultrafine silica powder is weighed in a hermetical vessel, and alkyl silicate, water, hydrochloric acid, etc. are subsequently introduced. The vessel is hermetically sealed, and the contents are agitated with a high-speed agitator having strong shearing force to complete the hydrolysis. The agitation is further continued to sufficiently disperse without scattering the ultrafine silica powder, and a homogeneous mixed sol without the inclusion of impurities is obtained. The pH of the sol is regulated with aq. ammonia, and the sol is subsequently dried to obtain the dry sol which is further heated to obtain the high-purity quartz glass.

摘要： PURPOSE:To produce a transparent material having controlled refractive index distribution, at a low cost, by immersing a porous material in a solution containing a compound having different refractive index from that of the material, allowing the compound to diffuse in the porous material, drying the product, and sintering and densifying the material. CONSTITUTION:A porous material is immersed in a solution containing a compound having a refractive index different from that of the raw material, and the compound is allowed to diffuse in the raw material to form the concentration distribution of said compound from the surface to the center. After drying the raw material impregnated with the compound, the material is sintered by slowly raising the temperature to obtain a densified transparent material having continuous refractive index distribution from the center toward the circumferential part and suitable as an optical fiber preform. The porous raw material is a dry gel prepared from a metallic alkoxide by a sol-gel method or its sintered product. The above compound effective to increase the refractive index is the hydrolyzed liquid, etc. of the alkoxide, chloride or acetate of Al, Ti, Zr, Ge, Si, Tl, Ga, Gd, Pb, etc., and the compound to decrease the index is e.g. boric acid, phosphoric acid, hexafluorosilicic acid, etc.

The resulting sol is poured into a prescribed vessel and made to gel. Inexpensive quartz glass of high quality is obtd. by a sol-gel method, yet the glass is liable to contain bubbles of several - several ten mum size. Quartz glass contg. no bubbles is obtd. by carrying out the evacuation treatment.

The pH of the mixture is adjusted to 3-6 with an alkali, and the product is put into a definite vessel, gelatinized, and dried. The obtained dry gel is sintered to form the objective quartz glass.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent the foaming even on heating at a higher temperature than the quartz formation temperature, by keeping the formed dry gel at a certain temperature between room temperature and a specific temperature one or more times in sintering in the method of synthesizing the quartz glass at low temperatures by the sol-gel method. CONSTITUTION:Aqueous hydrochloric acid is added to hydrolyze ethyl silicate under vigorous agitation, and fine powdery silica is added to the resultant solution, uniformly dispersed and adjusted to 4-6pH to form a sol solution. The resultant sol solution is then added to a suitable container, gelatinized, contracted and dried to give a dry gel, which is kept at a certain temperature between room temperature and 1,300 deg.C one or more times and sintered. For example, the dry gel is kept at 1,150 deg.C for 3hr and sintered.
