    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer which has the function of D-WDM and the function of WDM by using one optical component by forming a reflection grating at a specific position of a channel waveguide array for connection. SOLUTION: Light of the 1.55μm band which is made incident on an input waveguide 41 spreads laterally because of diffraction effect when entering an input-side slab waveguide 43a, and then enters the respective waveguides of the waveguide array 45. Refraction gratings 46 of the 1.55μm band are formed almost in the center of the waveguide array 45 and the position of each reflection grating 46 is shifted by certain length from an input-side slave waveguide 43a. Consequently, the lights which are made incident on the respective waveguides are different in reflection position and the tilts of equal-phase surfaces are different by wavelengths of the 1.55μm band right before the input- side slab waveguide 43a. Namely, the light of the 1.55μm band is projected from an output waveguide 42 and branched, and light of the 1.3μm is projected from an output waveguide 44 without being affected by the reflection gratings 45 of the 1.55μm band.

Negative refractive index material 25 consisting of materials having the negative coefft. of temp. of the refractive index are disposed on the waveguides at least the phase shift part 14b.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a compact waveguide type optical switch capable of greatly increasing the number of channels by using two waveguide type lenses forming slab waveguides and many pieces of phase shift waveguides. CONSTITUTION:The incident light on a certain channel of the input waveguide 6 where many pieces of waveguides are radially arranged is emitted in the form of light of a sinc functional distribution to a slab type lens 7. The light becomes to be rectangularly distributed by passing the slab type lens 7 and is made incident on plural pieces of the adjacent waveguide groups corresponding to the channels of the phase shift waveguides 8. The light is subjected to phase control by respective electrodes 11 formed in the phase shift waveguides 8, thereby the inclination of the wave front of the light of the rectangular distribution emitted to the slab type lens 9 and is further condensed to the light of the sinc functional distribution so as to be coupled to the output waveguides 10 of the desired channels.
