    • PURPOSE:To enhance the thermal deformation resistance of a nonmagnetic base and to improve the running durability of a recording medium by providing a nonmagnetic layer formed by incorporating specific fine particles and radiation polymerizable compd. therein and polymerizing the same by projection of radiations thereon between the base and magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The nonmagnetic layer (under coating layer) consisting of a binder contg. the fine particle introduced from a silica sol and a compd. in which a (meth) acrylate compd. having a triazine ring occupies >=45wt.% is provided between the nonmagnetic base and the magnetic layer and this under coating layer is irradiated with the radiations. The magnetic layer is formed thereon. Such under coating layer is formed by adding the above-mentioned binder into, for example, the silica sol, coating the mixture on the base and evaporating the org. solvent in the sol. The uniform dispersion of the silica is thus attained quickly. The thermal deformation resistance of the base is enhanced by the curing of the under coating layer by the projection of the radiations to be executed thereafter. The sticking of the magnetic layers to the substrate, rolls, etc., is obviated in the case of disposing the magnetic layers on both faces. Operability is thud enhanced. The excellent running durability is thereby obtd. This medium is used not only for the thin metallic film type recording medium but for the coating type as well.

    • PURPOSE:To improve traveling durability without increasing the coefft. of friction, by providing a coating layer wherein filler powder is kneaded and dispersed in a binder consisting of a phenoxy resin, polyol and polyisocyanate compd. on the substrate surface on the side opposite from a magnetic recording layer. CONSTITUTION:A phenoxy resin has the structure shown in the formula I , and contributes to the provision of heat resistance, toughness and blocking resistance. Polyols of polyester type and polyether types are used, and the mol. wt. thereof is 300-5,000, more preferably 600-4,000 in terms of reactivity with polyisocyanate. The filler for the back layer is inorg. powder such as SiO2, CaCO3, Al2O3, Fe2O3, TiO2, MnO, ZnO, CaO in addition to carbon black powder, graphite, tungsten disulfide, molybdenum disulfide, and boron nitride. Fatty acids of >=12 carbon atoms and ester compds. thereof, and further silicone and paraffin wax are usable as a lubricant in order to decrease the coefft. of friction of the back layer and to improve travelling property and durability.
