    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide improvements in the responsiveness and reception quality of a digital receiver when configuring a smart antenna.SOLUTION: The digital television receiver includes: smart antenna signaling means; event monitoring means; a smart antenna configuration estimator configured, in response to a detected predetermined event and for each of a current reception direction and available reception directions adjacent on either side of the current reception direction, to obtain an estimate of channel impulse response from the receiver, find a maximum value of channel impulse response corresponding to a main signal path, calculate a mean value of channel impulse response comprising channel impulse response values corresponding to one or more additional signal paths, and calculate a quality value as the ratio of the maximum value to the mean value of channel impulse response; and selecting means configured to select a direction corresponding to the largest quality value as a new reception direction for a current configuration setting.
