    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the speed or position of an elevator car using a sensor attached to the car. SOLUTION: A rotor 0101 furnished at the periphery with a magnetism generating means is positioned confronting a guide rail 0102 with a certain spatial distance held in between, the guide rail being furnished alike with a magnetism generating means 0103. The rotor 0101 moving in the shaft in interlocking with the car rolls with magnetic force.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forcible reduction gear for an end terminal floor of an elevator capable of simplifying the structure thereof, reducing the cost therefore, and detecting the position and the traveling speed of a car with high accuracy. SOLUTION: A detection plate 11 is provided in a vicinity of a terminating end of a hoistway 1, and a proximity sensor 12 is provided on an upper part of a car 5. The proximity sensor 12 is vertically moved according to the travel of the car 5 to detect the position of the car 5 by detecting the detection plate 11 in a vicinity of the terminating end of the hoistway 1. An overspeed monitoring device 30 calculates the mean actual speed Vs of the car 5 from the operational time detected by the proximity sensor 12 and the length of the detection plate 11, outputs a deceleration command 36a on the condition that the mean actual speed Vs is higher than the preset speed Vn, and forcibly decelerates the car 5.
