    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a colored filler useful in a coloring process for providing a dental composition with a color tone, having excellent dispersibility and color development, providing a paste stability, mechanical characteristics and optical characteristics, to provide a method for producing the filler and to obtain a dental composition containing the filler. SOLUTION: This dental colored filler comprises inorganic particles and colored particles which are uniformly mixed and dispersed in which the surfaces of these particles are coated with a poly(organo)siloxane, the poly(organo) siloxane is a condensate obtained by hydrolyzing or partially hydrolyzing a silane compound represented by formula (I) and/or a low condensate of the silane compound. The method for producing the dental colored filler comprises (1) a process for obtaining mixed particles by mixing and dispersing the inorganic particles and the colored particles and (2) a process for forming a poly(organo)siloxane coating film on the surfaces of the obtained mixed particles. The dental composition comprises (a) the dental colored filler, (b) a polymerizable monomer, (c) a polymerization initiator and (d) a filler.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new filler satisfying various functions required for a dental restorative material by using a specific inorganic and organic composite compound derived from a reaction with an organic component is synthesizing an inorganic component from a metal alkoxide. SOLUTION: This filler is mainly composed of a compound having an average composition of the formula [M is Ti, Zr, Y, La, Ta or Al ((x) is its valence number); M is Si or Ti; R is a non-functional group; R is an organic compound reacted with an organic functional group; (i) is 0-2; (j) is 1-3 and (i+j) is 1-3; [a/(a+b)] is 0-0.65; [c/(a+b)] is 0.02-3.0] wherein a visible light of 360-830nm is not scattered within a granule because a granular boundary does not exist and a refractive index to sodium D-line (nD) is within a range of 1.460-1.600. The filler preferably contains 10-80wt.% of an inorganic component. The average diameter of the granules is preferably 1-50μm. Furthermore, than surface of the granule is preferably modified by a silane coupling agent.
