    • PURPOSE:To uniformize the thickness of liquid crystal layers facing each other by doping an impurity selectively to regions where the eletrodes of high-polymer films are formed, thereby eliminating steps between parts where the electrodes are formed and parts where the electrodes are not formed. CONSTITUTION:The high-polymer films 9a, 9b are formed on transparent substrates 7a, 7b and the impurity is selectively doped to the regions of the high-polymer films 9a, 9b where the electrodes are formed, by which the electrodes 11a, 11b are formed. A part of the display electrode substrates 6a, 6b obtd. in such are manner are disposed oppositely in such a manner that the surfaces on the side formed with these transparent electrodes 11a, 11b face each other, and a liquid crystal of, for example, a TN type is sealed by a sealing material 13 between a pair of the display electrode substrates 6a and 6b, by which the liquid crystal layer 14 is constituted. The steps between the electrode parts 11a, 11b and the non-electrode parts are eliminated in this way and the thickness of the liquid crystal layer 14 facing these surfaces is uniformized. The liquid crystal display device having a good display grade is thus obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To execute bright and excellent color display, to easily manufacture a device and to prevent parallax from occuring when the device is used by constituting a light modulation part between a pair of transparent substrates having an electrode pattern inside by laminating at least two layers having a liquid crystal oriented by mutually different threshold voltages and a dichroic dystuff which show mutually different colors. CONSTITUTION:A light modulation substance 3 is constituted by laminating the layers 3a, 3b and 3c which respectively contain the dichoric dystuff, the liquid crystal and polymerized resin being as a supporting body by turns. Then, they are changed to an achromatic and transparent state from a colored state by the mutually different threshold voltages. Even when an electric field is impressed on the light modulation part, the respective layers become the colored state because only polarized light whose vibrating direction is parallel with the major axis direction of the dichroism dystuff contained in the respective layers is absorbed in the case that the electric field is not over the threshold voltages of the respective layers. Besides, when the electric field which is over the threshold voltage of one part of the layers is impressed on the light modulation part, one part of the layer becomes achromatic and transparent because the light is not absorbed only there. Thus, the bright and excellent color display is realized and the device is easily manufactured. Besides, the parallax is prevented from occurring when the device is used.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a multi-layered type liquid crystal display device which has high definition and is bright by composing a light transmissive substrate of an assembly of optical fibers which are arrayed at right angles to the surface of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:The glass substrate positioned between liquid crystal layers 3a and 3b is replaced for an optical fiber plate 6. An incident light beam A after being transmitted through the display part of the lower liquid crystal part 4b is guided by the optical fiber plate 6 immediately to the display part of the upper layer liquid crystal part 3a and transmitted through it. Therefore, the upper and lower display parts can be coupled optically and securely, so problems of parallax which are generated conventionally are solved. For example, the plate 6 is formed by arraying optical fibers of 1mm in diameter to 80 fibers/cm density and the positions of picture elements of the liquid crystal layers 3a and 3b are nearly aligned with each other in a cell normal direction. All matrix electrodes are driven statically so as to apply the same voltage to the liquid crystal layers 3a and 3b and when a transmission type LCD is constituted, an excellent contrast is obtained and the display picture elements have no parallax.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a bright and good color display without using polarizing plates and color filters and to attain the application of this display to a reflection type color display by disposing at least two kinds of regions adjacent to each other having the dichromatic dyestuffs indicating the colors different from each other from a liquid crystal to form one layer parallel with transparent substrates. CONSTITUTION:An optical modulating part 3 is disposed with at least two kinds of the regions 3a, 3b, 3c adjacent to each other having the dichromatic dyestuffs indicating the colors different from each other from the liquid crystal so as to form one layer parallel with the transparent substrates 2. The respective regions 3a, 3b, 3c are so formed as to be changed from the colored state to the non-colored transparent state by the threshold voltage when an electric field is impressed between electrodes 1 and 1 by selecting the liquid crystal material or controlling the grain size thereof. Thus, the bright and good color display is executed without using the polarizing plates and color filters and therefore, the reflection color type display is executed by providing a reflecting plate on the rear.

    • PURPOSE:To decrease the wavelength dependency of transmitted light at the time of transmission and to prevent light leakage at the time of a light shielding so that a black and white display of a high contrast ratio without coloration and a good color display can be executed by determining the twist angles of the respective liquid crystal molecules of a 1st liquid crystal layer and a 2nd liquid crystal layer. CONSTITUTION:The voltage for a display driving is impressed to the 1st liquid crystal layer 4a. The liquid crystal molecules are oriented in the twist rotating direction of the direction reverse from the twist rotating direction of the liquid crystal molecules of the 1st liquid crystal layer 4a in the 2nd liquid crystal layer 4b for compensation. The orientation directions of the respective liquid crystal molecules in proximity to each other are set in the directions orthogonal with each other between the 1st liquid crystal layer 4a and the 2nd liquid crystal layer 4b. The twist angle of the liquid crystal molecules of the 1st liquid crystal layer 4a, designated as theta1 and the twist angle of the liquid crystal molecules of the 2nd liquid crystal layer 4b, designated as theta2, are so set as to attain theta2>theta1. The wavelength dependency of the transmitted light is decreased in this way regardless of the voltage impressed to the 1st liquid crystal layer 4a and the light leakage is prevented. The black and white display of the high contrast ratio without coloration and the good color display are possible.
