摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garnet ferrite-base magneto-optical recording medium having high resolution and high recording density as well as excellent S/N and C/N and a magneto-optical information recording and reproducing device adequate for information recording or reproducing of such recording medium together therewith. SOLUTION: The wavelength of light for writing information to the magneto- optical recording medium 11 and the wavelength of light for reading out the information are varied. The magneto-optical recording medium 11 is the magneto-optical recording medium having a recording layer and a reflection layer on a substrate. The recording layer preferably has a layer structure laminated with a hematite layer and a garnet ferrite layer or a layer structure having the garnet ferrite layer existing on the surface of any of the spinel ferrite layer formed only in the track portions for recording the information, the rutile type oxide layer or the hematite layer.

SOLUTION: An information dividing means 11 divides input information obtained by arranging bits with two bits as an information bit by each information bit. An expanded basic block generation means 14 generates a block of (4×4)-bits where only a 'left/upper' bit is made to be 1 in a block at a position corresponding to the position of the bit being 1 in the basic block within the 'left/upper', 'right/upper', 'left/lower' and 'right/lower' blocks of (2×2)-bits by each basic block as an expanded basic block. 摘要： PURPOSE:To form an ultra-solution spot on an optical disk and to improve the resolving power of a main lobe by attenuating the central part of a beam by using an apodizing element and processing the reproduced signal obtd. from the reflected light in an equalizing circuit. CONSTITUTION:The laser beam emitted from a semiconductor laser 11 is collimated to collimated beams of light by a beam shaping section 12 and the intensity distribution is adjusted via the apodizing element 14 provided with a light shielding band 13 in the central part. The apodized light is introduced to a beam splitter 15, is changed in direction and is condensed via an objective lens 16 to a recording layer on the optical disk 10. On the other hand, the light reflected by the disk 10 is condensed by a lens 16 and is condensed via the splitter 15 and a condenser lens 17 to a photodetector 18, by which the light is converted to an electric signal. This electric signal is amplified in an amplifier 19 and is outputted via the equalizing circuit 20. As a result, the signal relating to the side lobe of the ultra-resolution spot is suppressed from the reproduced signal and the resolving power of the main lope is improved without using a slit.
