    • PURPOSE:To detect strip thickness during casting and to enable control by calculating correct values to the strip thickness caused by the deflection of a frame, the thermal deformation of the frame and the thermal deformation of a drum based on a gap between rolling reduction device for one pair of drums. CONSTITUTION:The drum gap S at the time of no rolling reduction at the room temp. is obtd. from rolling reduction positional detector 12. The correction caused by the deformation of frame is indicated with h1=(P-PO/Kn) (wherein, P: rolling reduction pressure acted to the frame and choke, PO: zero adjusting rolling reduction pressure, Kn: rigidity of the frame, etc.). The correction caused by the thermal expansion of frame is indicated with h2=alpha.l(TF- TFO) (wherein, alpha: coefficient of linear expansion of the frame, l: length of the frame, TF: cooling water temp. for frame, TFO: the cooling water temp. for frame at the pressure PO). The correction caused by the thermal expansion of drum is indicated with h3=-betaD(TP-TPO) (wherein, beta: coefficient of linear expansion of the drum, D: diameter of the drum, TD: cooling water temp. for drum, TPO: the cooling water temp. for drum at the pressure PO). Therefore, the strip thickness (h) is calculated with h=S+ h1+ h2+ h3. Since the strip thickness is detected just below the drum in such a manner, there is no delay of the detection and this is the most suitable as feedback signal in the strip thickness control system. Further, even if the drums are opened, the molten metal does not flood over.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a generation of cast strip breakage due to hot band and a thickness variation of cast strip by detecting a reaction force applied on roll support part and inputting a line contact pressure per roll width to a rolling force control apparatus through a limiter to control under a specified upper limit. CONSTITUTION:When the strip 13 is continuously cast by the twin roll strip continuous casting apparatus which is cooled inside and provided with a pair of rolls 2, 3 rotary driven opposite each other at the same speed, the reaction force applied on the bearings 6, 7 to support the rolls 2, 3 is detected. The specified value P of reaction force, which divides a sum of the detected reaction forces by the roll diameter, is set to 1-25kg/mm and also the specified upper limit P+P for the specified value P is set, among detected values P, the detected value P of reaction force exceeding the upper prescribed value P+P is inputted to the control apparatus 16 through the limiter circuit of proportional control system 17 as set the specified upper limit P+P. Thus, it slows the actuation of rolling force control and decreases a depth of constricted part in the variation characteristic of roll gap.
