摘要： PURPOSE:To produce the subject compound useful as a perfumery material or an intermediate for pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals and amino acids, in high efficiency, by reacting toluene with carbon monoxide in the presence of a rhodium compound under irradiation with light having a specific wavelength. CONSTITUTION:Phenylacetaldehyde can be produced by reacting toluene with carbon monoxide in the presence of a rhodium compound [e.g., chlorocarbonyl bis(trimethylphosphine)rhodium] under the irradiation with light having wavelength of >=325nm, preferably 325-400nm (generated by applying a filter or monochromator to a mercury lamp or xenon lamp to cut the light out of the above wavelength range). The objective phenylacetaldehyde is easily produced from toluene and carbon monoxide available at low costs.

CONSTITUTION:An aromatic compound having at least one H linked to an aromatic ring, such as benzene or toluene, is reacted with an alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid ester preferably having at least one H linked onto beta-C, such as methyl (meth)acrylate, preferably at 0-200 deg.C in the presence of a rhodium compound while irradiating the reaction mixture with light, by a mercury lamp or sunrays, to afford the aimed cinnamic acid ester useful as a perfume or raw material for photosensitive resins, medicines, agricultural chemicals, foods, etc., or intermediate for producing medicines, agricultural chemicals, foods, etc., or hydrocinnamic acid ester useful as medicines, agricultural chemicals, etc. A complex, such as PhCl(CO) [P(CH3)3]2 or PhCl(CO) [P-(n-C4H9)3]2, is preferably used as the above-mentioned rhodium compound.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compounds advantageously by using a phosphine having a low steric bulkiness, a high electron-donative property and a specified structure as ligands of a complex catalyst, using an aromatic hydrocarbon as the raw material and carrying out direct carbonylation under light irradiation. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic hydrocarbon is reacted with carbon monoxide in the presence of a transition metal complex and under light irradiation using a phosphorane (e.g. compound of the formula) represented by the formula (R1-R9 are H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl) as one or more ligands of the above- mentioned transition metal complex for carbonylation, thus giving the objective aromatic aldehyde. As aromatic aldehydes can be efficiently produced from an economical and readily available aromatic hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide, the above-mentioned method has a high industrial significance. The aromatic aldehydes are important as an synthetic intermediate of medicines, agricultural chemicals, perfumes or dyes.

CONSTITUTION:Aromatic hydrocarbons are reacted with CO in the presence of a Rh compound by irradiation with light rays, the formed reaction solution is at least partially extracted and treated with CO having higher pressure than CO pressure of the reaction process to regenerate and reactivate the Rh compound contained in the formed reaction solution. Then the treated solution is circulated to the reaction process and various kinds of useful compounds such as aldehyde, alcohol, ketone, carboxylic acid, dehydrogenated condensate, etc., are directly and efficiently obtained from the raw materials under a mild condition while maintaining a highly catalytic activity for many hours. In the above-mentioned retreating process, during or after treatment with CO, an organic phosphine compound is added and after the re-treatment, the excess organic phosphine compound may be removed.
