      EXAMPLE: Tetraproline benzyl ester hydrochloride.
      USE: Useful as a reagent in the plant breeding technique. For example, useful as a reagent for regulating the biosynthesis of plant cell wall playing an important role in the formation of the shape of plants.
      PROCESS: A compound of formula II is reacted with a compound of formula IIIin the presence of a condensing agent to give the compound of formula I . Alternatively, a compound of formula IV (X' is an intermediate residue of X) is condensed with a compound of formula III to afford a compound of formula V. The group X' in the compound of formula V is converted into a group X to give the compound of formula I .
