    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new analysis method of a multi-state system using a multi-valued decision diagram (MDD).SOLUTION: A multi-state system can be recognized as a multi-valued logic function called a structure function, and since the structure function is a monotonous increase function in many cases, the structure function can be compactly expressed with an EVMDD(Edge-Valued Multi-valued Decision Diagram). However, the analysis of the multi-state system using the EVMDD is not simple differently from a method using a normal MDD. Thus, it is possible to more compactly express the structure function than an existing analysis method using the normal MDD by using the EVMDD, and to analyze the system in a calculation time which is almost the same as that in the existing method.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diagnostic method and a diagnostic device of a multistate system using a multivalued decision diagram (MDD).SOLUTION: A multistate system can be considered as a multivalued logic function called a structure function, and since structure functions are usually monotone increasing functions, they can be represented compactly by EVMDDs. Nevertheless, EVMDD-based analysis and diagnosis of a multistate system are different from a method using ordinary MDDs and not straightforward. By using the EVMDDs, the structure functions are represented more compactly compared to when an existing method using the ordinary MDDs is applied, and furthermore the system can be analyzed in comparable computation time as in the existing method. Thus, by using the EVMDD-based analysis method, a diagnostic method and a diagnostic device that are efficient can be implemented.
