    • PURPOSE:To enable to inspect the defect of the titled film in a short time and with a high accuracy by a method wherein an electrolyte having fixed viscosity is dripped on the surface of said film of a semiconductor element, and a voltage is impressed between an electrode needle inserted to the electrolyte and said element, thus detecting and measuring the current value. CONSTITUTION:The electrolyte made by mixing 20g of potassium hydroxide, 100ml of water and 100g of gelatin is dripped on the passivation film 6 on the surface of a semiconductor element plate 1 in a fixed amount by using a dispenser. Next, the electrode needle 8 is inserted to the electrolyte 7, and then the voltage of such a polarity that the P-N junction becomes forward direction is impressed between said substrate 1. If the defects such as a pin hole 10 and a crack 10' exist in said film 6 under the electrolyte 7 in this state, the electrolytic current is detected by means of a device 9 to measure said current. Besides, the defect density can be evaluated based on the current value.
