摘要： Function approximation circuitry (100) approximates an arbitrary function F over discrete inputs. Discrete values of the function F are stored in a lookup table 'LUT' component (108) for various inputs. An addressing module (104) generates an address from an input. An interpolation factor module (116) generates an interpolation factor from the input. An interpolation module (120) generates an output, which is an approximate value of the function F for the input, from the interpolation factor, and from outputs of the LUT component when the LUT component is addressed by the address.

摘要： A sampling function waveform data generating device for fast generating data on a waveform approximating a sampling function with a simple circuit structure. Data on a waveform of a step function is outputted from a memory (20). A first digital integrating circuit (30) integrates the data on waveform of the step function and outputs data on a waveform of a broken-line function. A second digital integrating circuit (40) integrates the data on the waveform of the broken-line function and outputs data on a waveform approximating a sampling function. The outputted sampling function is a finite support function that is differentiable once, takes on 1 in sampling position t=0, 0 in all the other sampling positions, 0 in the ranges t +3, and a value other than 0 in the other range, and converges to 0 in sampling positions t=+/-3.

摘要： A device supplies an output value Y in response to an input value X in accordance with a given function F. The function F can be, for example, a gamma correction function for a video signal. The device operates as follows. An input section (INP) derives a table input value (XT) and an interpolator input value (XI) from the input value (X). A table (TBL) supplies a table value (YT) in response to the table input value (XT). An interpolator (INT) supplies an interpolation value (YI) in response to the interpolator input value (YI). An output section (OUT) combines the table value (YT) and the interpolation value (YI) so as to obtain the output value (Y).
The input section (INP) comprises an interval detector (DET) which defines a plurality of input value intervals (I1, I2). This detector (DET) supplies an interval indication (IND) which indicates the interval (I1) in which the input value (X) lies. The input section (INP) further comprises an input value former (IVC) for forming the table input value (XT) and the interpolator input value (XI) in dependence on the interval indication (IND). The table input value (XT) and the interpolator input value (XI) are determined, respectively, by a more significant part (MSP) of the input value and the complementary less significant part (LSP) of variable magnitudes in accordance with the interval indication (IND).
By means of such a device a satisfactory accuracy of the output value can be obtained while the table is of a moderate size.
