    • The present invention relates to a passive vibration isolation device for broadband suppression of vibrations. The device preferably comprises either a vertical spring filter (206, 208), a horizontal spring filter (204), or a combination of the two. The vertical spring filter may comprise any number of Belleville (208) or ZK (700) washers, stacked in series, in parallel, or any combination thereof. ZK washers are washers which comprise multiple integral concentric rings of varying conicity. The device further may optionally comprise a screw (1416), belt (2408), or similar device for adjusting the aspect ratio of the vertical spring. The device further may optionally comprise a screw (212), or similar device for adjusting the static load placed on the vertical spring. The horizontal spring filter may comprise any number of bearings retained within a conical raceway (222, 224) disposed between two cylindrical plates (114). The vibration isolation device then may be placed beneath a machine, or a platform supporting a machine, to isolate vibrations otherwise transmissible from the floor to the machine or vice versa.

    • An isolator. The novel isolator includes a first mounting structure, a second mounting structure, and a structure for providing a coupling path between the first and second mounting structures, this path having a series of zigzag patterns adapted to attenuate shock and/or vibration energy. The first mounting structure is attached to the shock source, and the second mounting structure is attached to the device to be isolated. In an illustrative embodiment, the isolator provides a path having a series of ninety-degree bends and a length greater than a direct distance between the first and second mounting structures. The path length and number of bends is tuned to provide a desired attenuation level. The dimensions of the isolator may also be tuned to provide a desired resonant frequency. In a preferred embodiment, the isolator is made from metal or some other material having stable properties over time.
