    • The invention relates to a brake cylinder for pneumatic vehicle brakes, especially for utility vehicles. Said brake cylinder comprises a spring brake section for carrying out parking brake actions by means of a brake spring (109), and a service brake section for carrying out pneumatic service brake actions, the spring brake section and the service brake section being combined in one housing (101) to give a structural unit. The housing (101) is subdivided by a piston (104) into two compartments (106, 107) the one compartment (106) of the two being used as the pressure compartment for actuating the service brake section, and the brake spring (109) of the spring section being arranged in the other compartment (107) on the opposite end of the piston (104). The brake spring (109) acts upon an additional spring piston (110) in the compartment (107) which can be locked relative to the piston (104) by means of a pneumatic locking mechanism (116) and can be released therefrom by releasing the locking mechanism, said spring piston being connected to a piston rod (112) directly or via additional elements to actuate the vehicle brake. Once the locking mechanism (116) is released, the brake spring (109) is effective between the two pistons (104, 110) and displaces them relative each other during a parking brake action. The invention is characterized in that the locking mechanism is configured as a pneumatic coupling.

    • A vehicle brake assembly includes a disc (12) that rotates about a lateral axis (14). A caliper (16) is mounted to a non-rotating vehicle structure and supports a pair of brake pads (20) that are positioned on opposing sides of the disc. An air chamber (26) provides an actuation force for the brake assembly. A first actuator (32) applies a force in a first direction parallel to the lateral axis to bring the brake pads into engagement with the disc during a braking operation. The air chamber includes a second actuator (30) that applies a force in a second direction transverse to the lateral axis in response to a vehicle input. An adapter (34) is operably coupled to the first and second actuators to translate the force applied in the first direction to the force applied in the second direction. The adapter includes a housing (44) that is mounted to the caliper and a lever (46) that pivots relative to the housing. The lever has one end connected to the first actuator and another end connected to the second actuator. With the use of the adapter, the air chamber can be installed in any of a plurality of installment positions that extend radially outward from the lateral axis.

    • Die vorliegende Erfindung schlägt erstmals einen Federspeicherkolben 1 vor, der aus Kunststoff, beispielsweise in Spritzgusstechnik, hergestellt ist. Zudem weist der erfindungsgemäße Federspeicherkolben 1 weiterhin eine Verstärkungseinlage 34 auf, vermittels der deutlich höhere Kräfte bei kleineren Wandungsstärken übertragen werden können als bei herkömmlichen Federspeicherkolben. Weiterhin ist der Sitz bzw. die Anlagefläche 8 im Federspeicherkolben 1 zur Abstützung der Speicherfeder 12 so ausgebildet, dass möglicherweise auftretende radiale Kräfte keinen negativen Einfluss auf die Funktionalität des Federspeicherkolbens 1 haben können.

    • A hydraulic brake actuator for a wedge type brake includes a tubular structure (22) extending from the brake and housing an extended end of a stem of the wedge (12) of the brake therein. A primary cylinder (28) is mounted on the tubular structure (22) and includes a primary piston (38) mounted for sealed movement therein. The piston has a rod (40) extending from one side thereof into the tubular structure (22) to be operably connected to the extended end of the stem (26). A spring (36) acts on a second side of the piston (38) and is capable of moving the piston toward a first position within the cylinder (28) for actuation of the brake. Hydraulic fluid can be selectively introduced to the primary cylinder (28) at the first side of the piston to cause movement thereof in opposition to the spring (36) to a second position to prevent actuation of the brake by the spring. An annular space between an interior surface of the tubular structure .(22) and an exterior surface of the rod (40) is sealed to prevent the hydraulic fluid from escaping from the cylinder (28). The sealing includes a floating seal carrier (68) surrounding the rod (40) and supporting a seal which extends inwardly to make sealing contact with the exterior of the rod (40) and a mechanical face seal (88) at the end of the floating seal carrier (68) to prevent the escape of hydraulic fluid behind the floating seal carrier.

    • A brake cylinder device is provided that can prevent an unintentional release of a braking force of a spring brake means due to disengagement of meshing portions of a clutch mechanism. A brake cylinder device (1) includes a service brake means (11) including a first piston (24), a spring brake means (12) including a second piston (27), a clutch mechanism (14), a spindle (15), and a spindle holding means (16). The spindle (15) is connected to the first piston (24) so as to be rotatable about an axial direction. The clutch mechanism (14) includes a nut member (33) that is supported rotatably by the second piston (27) and screwed to the spindle (15), and connects or disconnects the spindle (15) and the second piston (27). The spindle holding means (16) restricts the rotatable angle of the spindle (15), and holds the spindle (15) with respect to the first piston by urging the spindle (15) in a direction that is opposite to a rotation direction in which the nut member (33) is deeply screwed to the spindle (15).
