    • An image processor applies a RIP process to PDL data in order of the first through the n-th sheets to convert it into a scanning line type image data. An image forming section 5 receives the image data in sequence to form the image on the sheets. A controller 45 determines whether the RIP process is required for the image data of the n-th sheet or a rear cover. If no RIP process is required, the controller notifies the image forming section of non-RIP process for the n-th sheet. The RIP processed image data for the first through the n-lth sheets is applied to the image forming section. A waiting time for the image data transmission can be reduced. If the rear cover is blank, the high speed ring binding job can be established.

    • A debinding apparatus for inclusion in a machine (40) adapted to bind together sheets having first apertures longitudinally spaced along one edge. The machine (40) uses a first narrow thermoplastic strip having studs spaced complementary to the first apertures, and a second narrow strip having second apertures spaced complementary to the first apertures. The machine includes an assembly for forming heads on the ends of the studs including a plurality of fingers (91) for engaging the ends of the stud and a mechanism for actuating the fingers (91) from an inoperative to an operative position. The improvement to the machine (40) comprising a debinding apparatus which disengages the mechanism for actuating the fingers (91) so that after the cutting elements soften the heads the fingers (91) do not cool the heads, thereby facilitating separation of the narrow strips and sheets. A switch (148) initiates the debinding apparatus.

    • Male and female book binding strips are packaged in cassettes (31) and the respective cassettes are stacked in male and female hopper stations (66, 116). Punched sheets are deposited in a staging station. The components of the book are then assembled in an assembly station (121). Thus the stack of sheets is fed onto one jaw and one male strip is fed onto that jaw while a female strip is fed onto the opposite jaw superimposed above the first-mentioned jaw. The two jaws (123, 136) are moved toward each other until the stack is loosely held therebetween. Thereupon the jaws are pivoted to vertical position, the stack resting on a base plate attached to one jaw. The stack is jogged so that the holes in the sheets are aligned with each other and with the holes in the female strip. The male strip is pushed inward toward the stack, the studs fitting through the holes in the sheets and through the female strip. The assembled stack and strips are then moved into a bind station (201) where the strips are compressed together, excess stud length cut off and rivet heads formed on the severed ends of the studs.
