摘要： A stable water-oil emulsion, e.g. for timber preservation, is produced by bringing together and emulsifying the water and oil under conditions of ultra high shear and including in the emulsion at least one cationic, non-ionic and/or amphoteric emulsifying agent which emulsifies said emulsion without a chemically antagonistic reaction occurring. A suitable apparatus for use in forming the emulsion comprises an apparatus of the "DISPAX-REACTOR" or "ULTRA-TURRAX" type whose inlet is modified to permit the oil and water phases only the minimum possible residence time in contact with one another prior to emulsification.

摘要： An aqueous tar solution having excellent stability in which tar is dissolved in a liquid and which does not cause precipitation or separation, as well as a tar-containing coating composition having highly rot- and termite-proofing effects, are provided. The aqueous tar solution is obtained by mixing 10 to 50 g of a 10-50 % NaOH solution is mixed, relative to 100 g of tar, to produce a processed tar, and further mixing and dissolving 100 g of a 2-5 % NaOH solution, relative to 10 to 20 g of the processed tar. The tar-containing coating composition is obtained by mixing the aqueous tar solution in an aqueous coating composition having resin as the major component and containing charcoal powder.

摘要： Preservative compositions, their methods of manufacture, and use in preserving timber and other substrates. The compositions of the invention have unique modes of intra-component interaction and substrate- preservative- atmosphere interaction. More particularly, the invention relates to creosote based emulsions and derivatives, hereinafter referred to as pigment emulsified creosote (PEC). In accordance with the invention there is provided a preservative composition which is ultra-stable in the presence of wood extractives, said composition comprising an emulsion of a wood preservative grade creosote, from 5 to 95% water, and one or more pre-dispersed micronised pigments, said emulsion having been produced under conditions of ultra high shear, characterised in that said composition contains from a trace to 2.5 wt% of a rheology structuring agent, from 0.25 to 10 wt% of an alkali metal salt of a wood derived resin, from 0.1 to 5 wt% of a surfactant, from 0.25 to 5 wt% of a lignin sulfonate and from 0.25 to 2 wt% of a pigment modifying resin, said percentages being based on the total weight of said emulsion.

The compositions of the invention are particularly useful in the preservation of timber.
