2.1 Der rohrartige Nietschaft (21) war insbesondere mit einem kelchförmig aufgedornten Schaftende (24) verbunden, das beim Nietvorgang ein Loch (19) in der Trägerbahn (10) zu schneiden hat. Dieses Ende muß aber auf der Austrittsseite der Trägerbahn beim Nietvorgang in einer Deformationskammer (15) eines Gegenhalteteils (14) gestaucht werden. Man strebte dabei für unterschiedlich dicke Trägerbahnen stets eine Niettype an, weshalb sich eine hohe Schaftlänge ergab. Dies führte zu Nietschwierigkeiten und Nietabrissen im Schaft.
2.2 Die Wand des Nietschafts wird mit axial verlaufenden Längszonen versehen, die eine zueinander unterschiedliche Festigkeit gegenüber den beim Nietvorgang anfallenden Formänderungen aufweisen. Dies fördert eine Knautschfaltung.
