摘要： The invention relates to an apparatus, comprising a dispersion compensating fiber (132) which receives an optical signal and amplifies the optical signal by Stimulated Raman Scattering generated therein, and which compensates a dispersion given to the optical signal due to transmission through an optical fiber transmission line; and an optical amplifier optically coupled to said dispersion compensating fiber (132), including a rare earth element doped optical fiber (131-2) which further amplifies the optical signal received from the dispersion compensating fiber (132).
Moreover, the invention relates to a method of processing an optical signal, comprising the steps of: transmitting the optical signal in a dispersion compensating fiber (132); amplifying the optical signal by Stimulated Raman Scattering in the dispersion compensating fiber; further transmitting the optical signal in a rare earth element doped optical fiber (131-2); and amplifying the further transmitted optical signal in the rare earth element doped optical fiber, and to a method for processing an optical signal, comprising: transmitting the optical signal through a dispersion compensating fiber to amplify the optical signal; compensating a dispersion given to the optical signal due to the transmission through an optical fiber transmission line; and generating Stimulated Raman Scattering within said dispersion compensating fiber (132) by inputting pumping light to amplify the optical signal.

摘要： An optical fiber communication system which has, for instance, 1st and 2nd phase conjugators. The 1st phase conjugator converts a signal beam from a 1st optical fiber into a 1st phase conjugate beam, which is supplied to the 2nd phase conjugator through a 2nd optical fiber. The 2nd phase conjugator converts the 1st phase conjugate beam into a 2nd phase conjugate beam, which is transmitted through a 3rd optical fiber. The 2nd optical fiber consists of a 1st section between the 1st phase conjugator and the middle point of the system and a 2nd section between the middle point of the system and the 2nd phase conjugator. The total dispersion of the 1st optical fiber substantially agrees with the total dispersion of the 1st section, and the total dispersion of the 3rd optical fiber substantially agrees with the total dispersion of the 2nd section. With this constitution, the waveform distortion caused by the chromatic dispersion or nonlinearity is corrected.

摘要： An optical transmission line having a structure for achieving good transmission characteristics in a wider use wavelength band and a structure in which first and second waveguides having mutually-opposite transmission characteristics at a predetermined wavelength in the use wavelength band are alternated. The sign of the chromatic dispersions of the first waveguides at a predetermined wavelength in the use wavelength band is opposite to that of the second waveguides at the same wavelength. The sign of the dispersion slopes of the first waveguides is also opposite to that of the second waveguides. In a typical working example of the invention, particularly, the absolute values of the wavelength dispersions of the first waveguides lie in the range from 1 ps/nm/km to 10 ps/nm/km; the absolute values of the wavelength dispersions of the second waveguides lie in the range from 1 ps/nm/km to 10 ps/nm/km. The variations of transmission quality between wavelengths over the optical transmission line are effectively reduced.

摘要： To compensate a waveform distortion by using a nature that a spectral shape is perfectly retained even if all the linear distortions occur on a time-axis. An optical pulse transmitted from an optical pulse transmitter (1) via an optical fiber transmission line (2) is transmitted. An optical Fourier transformer (3) receives an optical pulse, and optically Fourier-transforms an optical pulse on a time-axis onto a frequency-axis to reproduce the frequency spectrum of an optical pulse on a time-axis by effecting switching between frequency and time, thereby compensating a waveform distortion by a linear effect on the optical fiber transmission line (2). A photodetector (4) receives an optical pulse from the optical Fourier transformer (3) and transforms this into an electrical signal to thereby obtain a pulse waveform before a transmission over the optical fiber transmission line (2).

摘要： An optical transmitter of CS-RZ modulation for further increase the SPM-GVD resistance and an optical fiber transmission system having the same are disclosed. The optical transmitter comprises a carrier source, a data modulating section for intensity-modulating the carrier with a data signal, a clock modulating section for amplitude-modulating the carrier so that the phase of the carrier is inverted for every one-bit slot of the data signal. The optical transmitter is characterized in that the carrier is given a prechirp by the carrier source or the data modulating section.
