    • A system and method of determining elevation values includes inputting a location (30) into a geocoding system having a segment data set and determining the closest segment (33) in the data set to the location (30). A data set of elevation data the closest segment is accessed and a determination is made of an elevation value for each of two elevation points (35,36) associated with the closest segment (32). The elevation value of the location (30) is determined based on interpolation of the location (30) in relation to each the two elevation points (35,36) and the elevation value of each of the two elevation points (35,36). The determined elevation value for said input location (30) is output. The offset distance of the location from the closest segment may be determined and a slope applied to the offset distance to determine an elevation gain or loss for the location due to the offset distance of the location from the closest segment.

    • Procédé de réalisation de document cartographique, remarquable en ce qu'il consiste:
      * à relever, à partir d'une projection en plan d'une région quelconque donnée, et avec une échelle donnée, les points hauts (1) et les points bas (2) de chaque élément de la topographie de ladite région,
      * à relever les éventuelles ruptures de pentes (3) entre lesdits points hauts et bas,
      * à matérialiser l'ensemble desdits points hauts et bas et desdites ruptures de pentes par des hachures sensiblement verticales (h1),
      * à matérialiser le sens des différentes pentes par des hachures (h2) disposées entres lesdites hachures verticales (h1),
      * lesdites hachures (h1, h2) n'apparaissant pas sur les contre-pentes afin d'obtenir un effet en trompe-l'oeil.

    • The invention relates to a method of producing a visuo-tactile atlas for the visually impaired representing structured units comprising a plurality of informative elements. The method comprises the steps consisting in: a) - determining the nature of the informative elements to be represented and defining representation rules; b) - selecting on the basis of conventional plates (1) said informative elements to be represented; c) - producing a set of tactile plates (2) according to the rules defined in step a), said objects at least being represented in relief and in colour; d) - producing a set of visual plates (3) corresponding to said tactile plates (2); e) - assembling a first booklet (100), in such a way that the tactile (2) and visual (3) plates of each structured unit are located opposite one another on either side of the binding (4); f) - producing the tactile legends (5) and the visual legends (6), and assembling a second booklet (200) in such a way that the tactile legends (5) and visual legends (6) of each structured unit are located opposite one another on either side of the binding (4). The invention is also aimed at an atlas comprising associated tactile and visual plates, as well as the corresponding legends.
