    • A method for pumping a liquid (121) with a pumping device (110) which comprises an inlet (215), an outlet (216) and chamber (214), wherein by means of the pumping device (110) liquid (121) to be pumped is introduced portion wise into the chamber (214) via the inlet (215) for liquid to be pumped and is discharged from the chamber (214) via the outlet (216). Herewith the method comprises the following steps:
      - introducing a gas into the chamber (214) that contains the liquid (121) to be pumped,
      - discharging the liquid (121) from the chamber (214) by the gas that is in contact with the liquid (121) to be pumped via the outlet (216), and
      - allowing the liquid (121) to be pumped to flow into the chamber (214) under the influence of gravity and allowing the gas introduced into the chamber (214) to flow out of the chamber (214), via two routes.

    • Vessels (10, 11, 12 and 13) are associated with an inlet manifold (14) passing to inlets (16), each controlled by a knifegate valve (17). The lower ends of the pots (10) and (12), and pots (11) and (13), pass material through respective outlet knifegate valves (22) to respective first (23) and second (24) delivery lines. The respective knifegate valves (17) and outlet knifegate valves (22) of pots (10) and (11) on the one hand and pots (12) and (13) on the other, are operable by respective common pneumatic actuators (25). Each pot has an ejector assembly (26) having an upper chamber (28), an air injector nozzle (30), and an accelerator tube (31) to create the venturi function. An air cycling valve (32) transitions the upper chamber (28) between a depressurized space and a pressurized space. The accelerator tube (31) exhausts to a delivery line (23 or 24). Ejector assembly (26) air is supplied via air control valve (35). The respective delivery lines (23) and (24) each have an eductor port (37) which allow for air to be ported into the line. The completed load and discharge cycle is governed by a pneumatic PLC and pneumatic timers.

    • A pump and pumping method are described. The pump (1) includes a pump body (10) in which a heating element (11) is located. Heating of gas in the pump body (10) by the heating element (11) and subsequent cooling of gas in the pump body (10) draws liquid into the pump body (10) through an inlet (12) and out of the pump body (10) through an outlet (14). To improve efficiency of the operation of the pump (1) the pump body (10) is shaped so that the heating of the gas by the heating element (11) promotes substantially non-divergent body movement of the volume of gas. In this way the effectiveness of the heating of the gas is improved and therefore the overall pumping efficiency is raised. A cooling element (13) is optionally provided, preferably in an arrangement in which heating and cooling of the volume of gas does not change the pattern of movement of the gas within the pump body (10).
