摘要： An ATM switching device comprising: at least one ATM switch element (SWEi); and means (Lli) for appending an emergency identification bit (EM) indicating whether or not an incoming ATM cell (Ci) is an urgent ATM cell, to the head of said ATM cell. When an ATM cell whose emergency identification bit represents a given logical value arrives at said ATM switch element, the ATM switch element holds all of ATM cells, other than ATM cells whose emergency identification bits represent said given logical values and which reside in the ATM switch element, in a congestion control memory buffer (MBi), so as to effect a switching of the urgent ATM cell as a top priority.

摘要： A dynamic queue allocation and de-allocation mechanism for managing traffic flowing through a switching node. If a packet matches conditions of a particular QoS policy rule, a determination is made as to whether a queue associated with the matched QoS policy rule exists on an egress port that is to forward the packet. If such a queue does not exist, a determination is made as to whether enough resources are available for dynamically creating the queue according to the QoS action parameters of the matched QoS policy rule. If the new queue may not be created because of resource limitation, queues of lower priority existing on the port are reclaimed and their resources reassigned to the new queue.

摘要： A switching node configuring different traffic management protocols via a single centralized set of policies. The switching node includes a central policy repository, a central policy engine, and a central management engine. The central policy repository stores a single set of policies used to manage a plurality of different traffic management protocols in a consistent and predictable manner. The different traffic management protocols may include QoS, NAT, ACL, and the like. The central policy engine evaluates inbound traffic flows based on the policies in the central policy repository, and configures one or more traffic management protocol entities based on a selected policy. The management engine configures and manages the single set of policies via a common set of commands helping to eliminate the danger of creating conflicting policies that may lead to unpredictable results.

摘要： A transmission system for the transmission of data cells between local stations and a central station. Cell arrivals are registered in a local register (CAR). Those registrations are periodically transmitted to the central station. The central station thereafter transmits the permit codes to the various local stations, in order to transmit the data cells which are most ready. In each local station the data cell which is most ready for transmission is transferred from a cell arrival buffer (CAB) to a cell departure buffer (CDB) as long as the permit code expected for said station, on the basis of the number of time slots since the cell arrival, remains forthcoming. The data cell remains in said buffer as long as no permit code addressed to said station is received. The data cell is transmitted as yet after the reception of a permit code addressed to said station. The data cell is discarded, however, as soon as an empty (unaddressed) permit code is received while the data cell still resides in the buffer. All this has the effect that transmission errors do not permanently frustrate the system.

摘要： Transmission system for ATM cells between a central station and local stations. In each local station, a cell being presented is stored in a cell buffer. In addition, a first character is written to a register. If an empty time slot is being presented, a second character is written to the register. The registers are read periodically. The content thereof is transmitted to the central station in the form of register codes. The central station transmits, on the basis of the location of the first characters in said register codes, permit codes to the local stations. With the aid of the presented system, it is possible, in practice, to bridge a distance of 20 kilometres between the local stations and the central stations, said distance hitherto having been approximately 10 kilometres. The system is simple, but, owing to the FIFO behaviour, has an excellent performance.
