    • A method for manufacturing a light-emitting device (110,111,120,130) is disclosed. The method includes removing a substrate (10) from a semiconductor layer (5). The semiconductor layer (5) is provided on a first main surface (10a) of the substrate (10). The semiconductor layer (5) includes a light-emitting layer (33). At least a top surface (5a) and side surfaces (5b) of the semiconductor layer (5) are covered with a first insulating film (13). A first electrode portion (14) and a second electrode portion (15) electrically continuous to the semiconductor layer (5) are provided. The first insulating film (13) is covered with a second insulating film (16). The removing is performed by irradiating the semiconductor layer (5) with laser light (LSR) from a side of a second main surface (10b) of the substrate (10). The second main surface (10b) is opposite to the first main surface (10a). Each of band-gap energy of the second insulating film (16) and band-gap energy of the semiconductor layer (5) are smaller than energy of the laser light (LSR). Also a light-emitting device is disclosed which can be produced using the method of manufacturing.
