    • An optical disc driving apparatus requiring a fewer number of parts, simpler structure, less assembly cost, thus having a lower product price. According to the optical disc driving apparatus, a base plate (200) on which a spindle motor (211) and a pickup unit (213) are mounted is moved to optical disc loading and chucking position together with a caddy (300) by physical force exerted to the caddy (300) inserted into the deck base (100). The base plate (200) is locked by a locking means and positioned. In this situation, an information is recorded and/or reproduced on/from the optical disc. In an ejection mode, the pickup unit (213) is moved in a radial direction of the optical disc so that the base plate (200) is unlocked and is moved to the initial position. Here, the physical force is a pressing force exerted by a user. Accordingly, the optical disc driving apparatus can be compact-sized, and conveniently utilized as a caddy-type as well as a tray-type.

    • When a second disc is inserted, recording and/or reproducing operation of information on or from a first disc is stopped, and a moving member is moved in the X1-direction. This movement allows a clamp chassis to be moved upward and unclamped, and the second disc is carried into a disc apparatus by a transfer roller and is supported by disc guides. Then, the first and the second discs are supported by the disc guides and are moved upward and then, the first disc is carried out of an insertion opening by the transfer roller. In the course of the movement of the drive chassis to the upper position, the second disc is placed on a turntable, and is chucked and clamped by a clamper. Therefore, it is possible to exchange the second disc with the first disc only by inserting the second disc.

    • The mechanism for loading and unloading a disk cartridge (13) uses two sliders (70, 73) (one on each side of a base plate (46)), which move in opposite directions under the influence of a tiller (76). Each slider (70, 73) has a slot (262, 281) to receive one of the two lifting pins (136, 139) provided on the cartridge receiver (82). The movement of the sliders (70, 73) drives the lifting pins (136, 139) along the slots (262, 281), thereby raising or lowering the cartridge receiver (82) depending upon the direction of rotation of the tiller (76). The sliding motion of the lifting pins (136, 139) engaged in the S-shaped slots (262, 281) thus unloads a disk (14) from or, alternatively, loads the disk (14) onto the drive spindle (61). As the lifting pins (136, 139) travel along their respective slots (262, 281), the lifting and lowering of the disk (14) is accomplished in such a manner that the disk hub (15) is peeled from the spindle magnet (63) rather than being lifted vertically off the spindle (61). This reduces the peak force required to break the magnetic clamp force between the spindle magnet (63) and the disk hub (15). In this system, the dust door (91) is attached to the cartridge receiver, and the label end of the loaded cartridge (13) remains visible when the disk (14) is loaded. This system may include a bias coil assembly (94) rotatably mounted on an arm (97) so that the bias coil assembly (94) may be loaded into or extracted from the disk cartridge (14) and placed out of the travel path of the disk cartridge (14). The rotation of the bias coil arm (97) is effected by one of the sliders (70, 73).
