摘要： Disclosed are a reel brake device and a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus having the same. The reel brake device comprises a tension band mounted on an outer circumference of a reel disc to control tension, the reel disc which is rotatably mounted on the main chassis to drive a tape reel of a tape cassette, and a brake unit fixed on the main chassis to help the tension band be in contact with the outer circumference of the reel disc. This can replace a conventional brake unit having a complicated structure, and therefore, the number of component parts can be reduced.

摘要： Control of recording of digital video data including I-frames. A data generating circuit generates a plurality of relative position data, each associated with specific data including the intra-coded digital picture data. Each of the plurality of relative position data is indicative of a plurality of relative positions from a current nth specific data location on a digital recording medium to each of n+1, n+2, n+m specific data location on the digital recording medium, where m is greater than 2. A recording unit coupled to the data generating circuit records the digital video data and the plurality of relative position data on the digital recording medium such that each specific data includes the associated relative position data, as well as the intra-coded digital picture data.

摘要： A recording and/or reproducing apparatus which includes no pinch roller and no capstan and wherein the converging time to a rotated speed upon starting of feeding of a tape can be reduced and the tape can be fed stably at the rated speed during recording and/or reproduction of the tape is disclosed. A rotary encoder for detecting a period of rotation is disposed between a recording and/or reproducing head and a take-up side reel, and deviation from a predetermined reference value is calculated from the period of rotation detected by the rotary encoder.
On start-up the period of 1/n rotations is measured and used to determine the deviation. After one rotation has been completed the deviation is determined from the period of a whole rotation.

摘要： A system for preventing improper tape feed in a cassette tape player uses pulse width measurements from the take-up reel (28) output signal to sense normal or aberrant tape feeding conditions. The pulse width of the output signal is compared with a predetermined range of pulse widths associated with normal tape operation.
