    • An object of the present invention is to improve a phenomenon of the life-shortening of the endurance life due to scratch occurring when recesses of a fixed dimple shape are formed on the surface of the surface layer, in order to inhibit the chattering and folding back of a cleaning blade and the fracture of an edge, which occurs because friction between the surface layer of the surface of an electrophotographic photosensitive member and an abutting member is high; and particularly to improve the above described problems, from initial printing through printing on many sheets, which become particularly remarkable when using an electrophotographic photosensitive member with the use of a curable resin that is improved so as to have a high elastic deformation rate for the surface layer, in order to improve the strength of the surface layer, for the purpose of increasing the durability of an electrophotographic photosensitive member. An electrophotographic photosensitive member for achieving the object, which has a support and an organic photosensitive layer, is characterized in that the electrophotographic photosensitive member has dimple-like recesses formed on the surface of the surface layer of the electrophotographic photosensitive member, and further has the recesses with the same pattern as that on the surface of the surface layer, formed on the interface created between the surface layer of the organic photosensitive member and the layer directly under the surface layer (a subsurface layer).

    • The present invention provides organophotoreceptors comprising an electrically conductive substrate and a photoconductive element on the electrically conductive substrate, the photoconductive element comprising:

      (a) a charge transport material having the formula
      where n is an integer between 2 and 6, inclusive;
         R 1 and R 2 are, independently, an alkyl group, an alkaryl group, or an aryl group with the proviso that neither R 1 nor R 2 is a naphthyl group, a stilbenyl group, alkylsulfonylphenyl group or a (9H-fluoren-9-ylidene)benzyl group;
         R 3 and R 4 are, independently, H, halogen, carboxyl, hydroxyl, thiol, cyano, nitro, aldehyde group, ketone group, an ether group, an ester group, a carbonyl group, an alkyl group, an alkaryl group, or an aryl group;
         X is a linking group having the formula -(CH 2 ) m -, branched or linear, where m is an integer between 0 and 20, inclusive, and one or more of the methylene groups can be optionally replaced by O, S, C=O, O=S=O, a heterocyclic group, an aromatic group, urethane, urea, an ester group, a NR 5 group, a CHR 6 group, or a CR 7 R 8 group where R 5 , R 6 , R 7 , and R 8 are, independently, H, an alkyl group, an alkaryl group, a heterocyclic group, or an aryl group; and
         Y comprises a bond, C, N, O, S, a branched or linear -(CH 2 ) p - group where p is an integer between 0 and 10, an aromatic group, a cycloalkyl group, a heterocyclic group, or a NR 9 group where R 9 is hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or aryl group, wherein Y has a structure selected to form n bonds with the corresponding X groups; and
      (b) a charge generating compound.
      Corresponding electrophotographic apparatuses and imaging methods (processes) are described, as are corresponding charge transport materials.

    • The invention presents an electrophotosensitive material comprising a conductive substrate, a photosensitive layer formed on the conductive substrate, and, if necessary, a surface protective layer formed on the photosensitive layer, wherein an oxadiazole derivative expressed in a general formula (I):

      where R¹ denotes an alkyl group, is contained as an electron transfer substance on the photosensitive layer and/or surface protective layer. This photosensitive material enhances the electron transfer capability, and hence the sensitivity is improved. At the same time, the residual potential of the photosensitive material is lowered, and the stability and durability against repeated exposures are enhanced.

    • The electrophotographic recording element comprises a charge generator compound formed from aniline sulphonephthelein derivatives, in which at least one phenyl ring comprises an amino group substituted by an aromatic or heterocyclic group. The recording element may consist of an electrically conducting support on which a layer is deposited containing the charge generator compound dispersed in a resin, then covered in its turn by a further electric charge transporter layer containing an oxadiazole derivative in solid solution in a resin. The recording element has high sensitivity to luminous radiation over a range extending from visible radiation to infrared, and can consequently be used in normal copying machines and especially in laser printers operating with a wavelength up to about 850 nm. According to a further version of the invention, the recording element comprises an electroconducting layer on which a single layer is deposited formed from a mixture prepared from a dispersion of an aniline sulphonephthalein derivative in a resin, and a solid solution of oxadiazole derivative.
