    • Provided is a terahertz wave generator that improves efficiency of generating a terahertz wave. The terahertz wave generator includes a generating layer (11) for generating the terahertz wave, a waveguide layer (12) for propagating excitation light entering the generating layer (11) and a terahertz wave generated by the excitation light entering the generating layer (11), and a first confinement layer (13) for confining in the waveguide layer (12) the excitation light propagating in the waveguide layer (12) and the terahertz wave propagating in the waveguide layer (12). The generating layer (11), the waveguide layer (12), and the first confinement layer (13) are laminated in the stated order.
