摘要： A combined radiation source holder and beam collimator in which the source holder comprises a rod having a plurality of holes adapted to receive radiation sources and said collimator comprises a tube made of radiation absorbent material and having transmission holes in it, said rod and tube being arranged such that in use each radiation source is aligned with at least one transmission hole aligned to provide a path along which radiation from the source traverses the thickness of the tube to produce a collimated beam of radiation which is projected laterally relative to the rod and tube. The source holder and collimator is suitable for use in a density profiler for measuring a density profile of a medium including at least two liquid and gaseous phases includes an axially distributed source array providing at least 10 collimated ionising radiation beams; an axially distributed radiation detector array, each detector associated in use with one of the beams and producing an output signal in response to incident radiation; and an analyser for the detector output signals to determine the density of the medium traversed by the beams of radiation.

摘要： A method for performing security screening at a checkpoint is provided. The method includes providing an X-ray imaging system having a scanning area and providing a supporting device for supporting articles to be scanned in the scanning area, wherein the supporting device has at least two reference areas manifesting respective X-ray signatures when exposed to X-rays, the X-ray signatures being distinguishable from one another. The method further includes placing an article to be scanned on the supporting device, introducing the article to be scanned in the scanning area while the article is supported by the supporting device and using the X-ray imaging system for deriving the X-ray signatures of the reference areas and for obtaining an X-ray image of the article while the supporting device is in the scanning area. The method further includes using the X-ray signatures to derive X-ray attenuation information from the X-ray image and using the X-ray attenuation information in determining if the article is a security threat.

Said measuring device has a single line pair (17) via which power is supplied to the entire measuring device and via which the transmission of the measured signal occurs, and has a radioactive emitter (5) which, during operation, sends radioactive radiation through the container (3), and has a detector (7) with a scintillator (9) and a photomultiplier (11) which is used to detect a radiation intensity penetrating through the container (3)as a function of the physical parameter to be measured, and to convert said parameter into an electric output signal (N), with measuring device electronics (15) which are used to create the measured signal (M) based on the electric output signal (N) of the detector (7) and to make available said measured signal via the line pair (17), with an energy accumulator (27) powered via the line pair (17), with a controller (45) which triggers measurement phases as a function of the energy available via the line pair (17) and the energy accumulator (27), during which the measuring device measures the physical parameters, and which puts in operation the photomultiplier (11) exclusively during the measurement phases, wherein the large voltages needed for operation of the photomultiplier (11) are created during the measurement phases by means of a high voltage cascade (31).
